Had a short lived bout of excitement just now.
My little town was given a tornado warning but it only lasted less than 10 minutes and now the warning is over.
I don't think any funnels touched down.
If they did it must have been on farmland away from town.
I went outside to look for them but saw nothing.
I always wanted to see me a tornado.
So I'm standing out there and the neighbour hollers at me something unintelligible.
I shouted back, "Yes, my insurance is up to date," cuz that was the first and only thought that came to my own mind when I felt the winds picking up and saw the warning flash on my cel.
I figured he might be thinking the same.
LOL

I always thought "Storm Chasers" worked too hard. What they should do is find a trailer park and let the storm come to them.

LOL @ Rog.

The storm passed over without any funnels touching down.
Within 15 minutes the sun was shining.
It was a huge let-down.
I was hoping for a little excitement and adrenaline.
None of the fun stuff ever happens to me.
:(

LOL

Always interesting to experience something on the verge of happening; yet not totally ruining your day!
Hope your hair was on end and you felt invigorated.

Long story short. I know. I know. Unusual for me, huh?

My wife and I and our best friends experienced a tornado some time ago on a weekend trip to Fargo, ND. The Army and FEMA were prepped to dig us out (short version). I've experienced all kinds of hairy weather so I'm good to go with most. But, Matt, that was the scariest yet. Others here will tell you the wonderment wears thin when it gets close, not to mention golf ball size hail, and the fact that several smaller whirlwinds may follow, and the big one can double back once it passes by. (short version). Instead of carrying that 2X4 it may be carrying you as it flies through one end of the house to the other side. If you're outdoors you might not see the shrapnel headed your way long before the tornado introduces itself. Seeing it on TV is not the same as having it pick you as a target when you least expect it.

You live in Wild Rose country, Matt. I could introduce you to a cousin who was beat and cut up with staples and nails flying, and crushed beneath a collapsed trailer next to their overturned pickup. She survived barely, and was one of the lucky ones. You might have heard about this. It was in your neck of the woods.

Of course if that doesn't scare you, you could always move out this way.
Canada's largest F5. 11 miles from my home in a straight line, and only a few miles from the populated city. No one got hurt - this time.

Play it safe. Even experienced storm chasers get killed.

Yeah. Those guys did a good job, and we were stunned when we saw what was down our avenue. These guys were lucky. Recent storm chasers, including one of the longtime best have not been so lucky elsewhere, even with a custom vehicle meant for the task. Ya don’t want to fight with Mother Nature. She can be nasty when least expected and, she’s not fussy about who she takes on.

we had a warning here (central Mass - US) just the other day. Rained like I've not seen in years, skies looked ominous, lightning dancing around continually, no tornado thankfully

There was one about 30 miles south of us about 5 years ago. It ripped through a few towns, killed several locals. You don't want anything like this anywhere near you. They can leave the area in total devastation in a matter of minutes.

Glad you stayed safe, Ray.

We just got something of an alarm system, much like the one Hawaii had trouble with when they got the controversial false alarm with the missle alert.

It’s still in the test stage. Better than nothing; but, with timelines and detection it’s not a lot better. I think the biggest problems will show up if there are too many iffy alerts causing people to neglect them when they are accurate.
