Hello...

I was looking at buying an American Special Strat 2010 with sn US10120375. This guitar has a natural finish. and I wrote down the serial number on the headstock at fender.com, but it says it was HIGHWAY ONE™ STRATOCASTER® (2006-2011) with sunburst finish. Also, the guitar has the fender USA almond-like truss rod hole.

Can someone help me with this?
Is it real or fake?
I'm so confused :?:

Thank you! :D :D

American Special basically is a Highway One.
The AS released in 2010, and features the Greasebucket tone circuit, and the tone controls only work on the bridge and neck. I believe this was also done on the later Highway One. The AS has Texas Special pickups.
For the -2011 year return, there may have been some overlap as the H1 was phased out.

The walnut teardrop opening is correct, the Mexican "Classic Series '70s" is the only model other than the Malmsteen (Corona) and Blackmore (Mexico) that has the "bullet" truss rod adjuster.

The paint color not matching is troubling, I would call customer service and they can confirm your build, given that you got a return of "2006-2011" and not a specific year.

The early (Drawing dated 2002) "US Special Highway One" had the smaller headstock with traditional tone control wiring (no tone on bridge)
Later (Drawing dated 2005) "US Special Highway One" had the "Greasebucket" tone control wiring (no tone on middle)... the drawing shows the small headstock, but they went to the CBS style in 2006.
The "American Special" (Drawing dated 2009) had the larger CBS style headstock with the "Greasebucket" tone control wiring (no tone on middle)

The 2nd Gen Highway One was available in 3-tone burst, it was not available in natural.

I didn't know that. Great post, Rich.

This one was bought from Fender... will be going on my Antigua Partscaster.
It has an "MX" serial number on the back, but does not return anything on the support site:

And yes, the OCD part of me seriously stressed whether to line up the slot on the "G", or line up the keys :D
