This is the best explanation of the issue I've read:

A good list for the site certs affected and those upcoming in the later part of the year. Along w/ Firefox also following Google's lead.

Good post. sfceric64. Just shows to go ya that all is not happy with certificates or related.

It would be a mistake to think I haven’t an understanding for certificates, ghost. I agree they are an extra layer of protection, but not without flaws.

Mozilla’s explanation (purely for information and not an endorsement) of how it could work:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/se ... ertificate

Nice! But, then there’s this amongst other concerns:

https://www.howtogeek.com/182425/5-seri ... n-the-web/

So, alternatives are on the table for now, some for the future, and some to come.

Two of many problems with that too. Browsers aren’t always welcome to change or to accept alternatives, and the thought of using one or two security authorization providers has been questioned to leaving a risk that corrupt interference could be heightened and pinpointed with the chance that more web sites could be more easily compromised with an unwelcome hit (or it may prove to be more secure). History of long term security would likely side with the former. IMHO. True that just about any alternative is about to be hacked or disrupted. That’s the name of the game. However, just like seals, fish, or other creatures that gather in groups for survival against predators, more choice reduces the inevitable that if it can happen it will. One morsel alone is looking for trouble. Especially nice if it’s a fat choice for the predator.

Add to the equation that any monopoly would mean BIG money (and control) that many would be envious of. Those dollars have to come from someone, ads or no ads. Hmmm.

In the end I’ll just say again, certificates are better than nothing . . . but, the times? They constantly are a changing. . . . and that makes it tough for webmasters.

Thanks, for all you do, Brad.

security certificates are most definitely better than nothing, and when you (or anyone else) can dream up a better way, you stand to make a ton of money. Until that happens, anyone who is running a website simply needs to be proactive and sharp. That's why they make the big buck$!

All, this actually has nothing to do with a bad or expired certificate nor does it have anything to do with popup ads. There's one pesky CSS file being included here in http mode (vs. https) that is resulting in this behavior and has been for a bit now. Chrome is simply getting increasingly boisterous about reporting such anomalies when it encounters them. Anyway, just to confirm: we're aware of the issue and do have a fix in motion.

Thanks, for the confirmation, Brad. We've all been there with things that should work but don't. With bugs and obsolescence among other things. Why heck, aside from early math equations, it seems like computers have forever introduced things that don't work (without compensation) from the get go as I remember things evolving from the old DOS days. To think we paid for that, and accepted it with a grim face with out of pocket expenses to correct it. After all, pioneers have to go with the flow and rejoice on new fan-dangles whether they work or not. Improvements will be made, but no-one ever talked about the replacement blues. :x
These days we have Adobe Reader PDFs, Flash, Silverlight, and the list of many well used features and support that are working their way to the grave if they haven't already. HTTP and HTTPS certainly have their future limited it would seem (if some have their way). I have a feeling major changes will be made that, for one reason or another, the whole web/browser war will come face to face with substantial winners and losers, and who knows, hardware and an improved Net may lead the way? Maybe Big Brother will have a say with voice control as we are seeing now. There goes that security thing again. Whoo Boy!
Only the Shadow knows for sure.

Peace

You want to place a bet on whether I'm right? :D

why, do you have some way of proving it was "one pesky CSS file" causing the problem?
