As a writer, lifelong learning geek...

and picker...

...the idea came January '07 to start a formal (albeit on computer) "Guitar Playing Diary."

Basically an Excel spreadsheet with some 'thoughts and details' extra columns, after 1 1/2 years, it's interesting to see what guitars and amps were played what days and what types of music or when something (or you) sounded particularly good or bad. And count how oft one actually uses what. Or tried what, where.

Apologies if this sounds terminally nerdly, but it's useful and fun. And which philosopher said, "An unexamined life is not worth living(?).

Anyone else do this or have thoughts hereon?

I've got ADD. I could never be that meticulous in record keeping.

Sounds cool. I used to do something similar when I was lifting weights.
I might have to look into doing it for my playing.

Like CAFeathers, I have done something similar before with respects to lifting weights and running. Never thought to do it with respect to the guitar.

Great idea!

Thank you for your thoughts.

After further pondering, 'believe original subliminal inspiration came from Tommy Tedesco's column in GP in the late 70s. He would detail the gig and instruments used and then give a lesson on part of a song.

'Am now addicted to the concept and enjoy the looking back part.
