I need help finding an electric guitar in the $300-$500 dollar price range. I'll be playing classic rock, heavy metal, and a little country. If you know anything it will help! Thanks!!

You can't go wrong with a Telecaster :)

It would have to be a MIM though (Made in Mexico).

Still ace guitars though!

Well, to start out with....I would go to an online site, such as Musicians Friend or the Guitar Center website and do some research there. Those sites have a search feature, where you can enter a price range. Then all guitars in that price range will be displayed, and you can start on your hunt for your guitar. You can use those sites to see all the specs on the different guitars, colors, and even customer reviews.

Once you have a "short list" of guitars you're interested in buying, then you can go to a local guitar store and see those guitars in person and play them. It's how I've always done it.

I have a MIM Strat, and that is in your price range. I've seen them used for rock and country, but I really don't know how good they are for metal (I'm not into metal). I've always thought Metal players go for the humbucker guitars.....but then I don't know much about metal.

Welcome to the Forum.

In that price range you are looking at MIM Tele or MIM Strat. Both would serve you well.

I'd go to a local guitar store and try as many guitars in your price range as your can. I would think a MiM telecaster would be a great fit, but that's just me.

Classic rock and country are definitely taken care of with any of those guitars. Metal, I'm not so sure about, but I imagine they'd work fine.

+1 more. That's where I got my MIM strat. If you know what you want, you can save a good amount of money.

Pawn shops are often a good place to find good inexpensive guitars, amps, and effects. But do your research so you don't get ripped off paying new prices for used gear.

Tele or strat should fit the bill, and budget, for you right now. As others have said, Craigslist is a good starting point are any of your local shops. The dreaded 'GC' can be a good place to go try out various makes and models as well.

To me, the question is 'do I trust the company?' Which in this case is Fender.

The answer to that is yes. So, yes, I do trust the MIM. I think you need to put your hands on it in a store and try it. You'll find MIMs that you don't think are put together that well. Ok, just move on to the next one. Guess what? You'll find MIA that aren't put together that well also. I am not as concerned about where the parts are made and such, but rather with the reputation of the company for being strong and producing quality parts.

Really no different with respect to the 'American' motorcycle I ride. A Harley.

They are 'American made' but have parts that come from all over the world. And although they are assembled in the US, there are still those 'foreign' parts in there. But I trust in the company to produce a quality motorcycle.

Sorry for the gap between posts, football has started! Go Lions!!!(not Detroit)
Thanks for all the help!!! I'll be visiting a few music stores and pawn shops in my area to try and find a MiM or, if there is one cheap enough, MiA guitar. Do you know of any questions I should ask the salesman?
