In the late 1960's through to the mid 1980"s my father was the owner of Musicland situated at 708 Main Street in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. During this time the store was THE PLACE to go to buy Fender guitars, amps, P.A.'s. (as well as Gibson, Yamaha, Shure and a host of other top names) This was at the time being a franchise dealer was all important if you wanted to deal in the best professional gear.

My dad left for the "big gig in the sky" some years ago. What he did leave behind for me (other than a life long love of playing music) is a beautiful 8 string Fender Lap Steel. It's in wonderful shape and stored in the case with the three matching legs.

I have no way of dating this treasure. I can't locate the serial number (only a PAT # on the tuning keys) Can you help??? Perhaps by helping me locate where the serial number is and to point me in the direction of a collector or dealer so I can have this appraised for insurance.

I have digital pictures (Not of me! The Guitar!!!!) Let me know and we can make contact by e-mail.

I don't know where the serial number would be on a lap steel, but you could look for similar looking ones on eBay, etc. and see how old they are

Thanks. so far e-bay hasen't been much use. My understanding is these lap steels are rather rare. 8 string being manufactured between 1960 and 1965. At least that is what was told to me.

The easiest way to verify the date the instrument was constructed is to look under the tuning mechanism. A date of manufacture will usually be penciled in under the tuning peg plate.
