Maybe I'm getting senile, but I was sure when I signed up for Fender Play a few months ago, the song Sweet Home Alabama was on the song list...with a full play version. Can't find the song at all now. Any help?

Perhaps, someone here knows and will help out. I can’t say since Fender Play and the song haven’t crossed my lap.

Being a popular song maybe this will help you or until the answer appears, mcoffin1940. Skill level for this song varies and interpretation with lessons is always different. This may not be suitable or complete enough for you, but you may find it useful to get started.

One version of Sweet Home Alabama:

Good to have you here in the Forums. Enjoy.

It might be a blessing in disguise, depending on your perspective. I know a lot of folks who would rejoice if they were given the choice to never have to play sweet home ever again. For me it’s Mustang Sally. I could go the rest of my life quite happily without ever playing that one again. Some songs just get played too much.

My two cents.
Your mileage may vary.

I'm sure for some it may be an over-played song. But, as a beginner and a senior citizen, I would be thrilled to play it and Lonnie Mack's Memphis while I am still on this side of the grass.

You’ve got that right, Matt. My nephew who plays a pretty mean Blues harp throws up when they play Mustang Sally, and when I played the drums I’d suggest Rise and Fall of Flingle Bunt, Let There Be Drums, The Witch or just about anything else instead of Wipeout (and yes, I can play it like all the other thousands of table top drummers). Those accented single stroke rolls always win out though. When I took to guitar it was “She Loves You Yada Yada” which hit like a hurricane. Thankfully, Louie Louie and other dynomite classics rounded things out in ‘64.
In this town we’re bombarded with everything and anything Guess Who or BTO.. Most embrace it while others suggest, as I and other Guess Who fans and musicians even of our older generation do, that it’s a deterrent for other groups and should quietly be put to bed. This practice of hanging on is a pretty common routine regionally though. Each to their own.

By all means go for SHA and Memphis. if you enjoy them mcoffin1940. I’m not an Adele or Celine fan, but it’s plain to see they ain’t going anywhere soon. Rats!
FSB

Tip:If there’s a video lesson on how to play a song - usually it’s overplayed. It’s also popular. (I read a songwriters’ article that questionably said 99% of the songs don’t make it for a host of reasons). :P

Sorry that we didn’t have the direct answer for you; but, give it a chance for others who may. Sorry, if you thought this all to be a lecture . . . in fact it is hopefully to encourage you to play what you like as we all do for enjoyment. I can’t speak for anyone else, but generally we were talking about how others react, and this comes from a senior who is likely to call you a youngster, and I wouldn’t call Little Richard or Keith Richards old. Maybe aged. Me? I’m nicely marinated with after shave. Hahaha. :P A lot of us like Skynyrd and Memphis. I know a few here who like Skynyrd alot. I even like the Beatles, but not “She Loves You”. :D
Cheers!

I found this. Perhaps, you’ll find the answer here:

https://play-support.fender.com/hc/en-us

You’ve probably seen this list, but I’ll include it anyhow. Note that on page 13 it includes “Sweet Home Chicago”, but not “Sweet Home Alabama”
.

Good Luck!

Yep, that one goes to the top (or bottom) of my list too.

Funny story - around the time Nirvana's 'Nevermind' was getting massive radio play, I remember multiple bar owners booking us with the condition that we were not allowed to play "Come As You Are". The problem was it's a real easy song to play so EVERY band would come in with that one.

Maybe he uses IE, so the you tube video that FSB posted is just the infamous "black box".

mcoffin1940,
there are a few videos on youtube.

This one will give you more than chords: (and ads)
https://youtu.be/FOh9-f_o_MM

I don't have a Fender Play account, so I can't help you with that.

It's transitioned from the "black box" to the grey space, absolutely nothing but empty background. You cant even highlight the space to see a link address.

Thanks for the link.

No offense taken. The attitude here is not mine. I asked if anyone knew of a lesson that I thought was on Fender Play. Maybe i saw it on a different site. No problem...but i dont need to hear that my choice of music is outdated etc. End of topic.

It's a guitar forum.
Maybe you're new to guitar forums, I don't know but here's a primer for you.
Guitar forums are basically 100% saturated with opinions.
There really is no getting away from it.
You can ask politely for no opinions but in reality, that's just not going to happen.
It's a guitar forum.
Pretty much the only places where personal opinions are even more prevalent are political discussions.
Gather up some patience, learn to live with opinions and wait.
Eventually some good info will float up.

Oh, and by the way.
Our Forum Admin is Brad Traweek.
He's the only person who can say, "End of topic."
Sorry but that power does not reside with you.
Welcome to the world of guitar forums.
You may need a thicker skin.

For me it's both of those as well as Jenny Jenny by Tommy Tutone!
