Yep, I remember that. I may be wrong, but I thought at the time anyway that EVH was giving the Kramer brand a public nod of approval....then sometime after that EVH started making EVH guitars.

Charvel, Kramer, Music Man, Peavey, now Fender....
Eddie has endorsed a few builders, but the "5150/Wolfgang" design didn't begin until Music Man. Kramer and Charvel only made the Frankenstrats.

Floyd Rose was the man behind EVH's decision to join the Kramer roster.

I came across this interesting article in MarketWatch about struggling guitar companies.
https://www.marketwatch.com/story/we-asked-guitarists-why-guitar-companies-like-gibson-are-struggling-and-how-to-revive-them-2018-05-04/print
It mentions not only the bankruptcy petition's debt estimate of $500 million for Gibson, but also the $100 million debt estimate for Fender.

Thanks, for posting that interesting and relative article, CoronadoII.

To look at guitar sales and popularity one would have to also factor in the amount of vintage and other used gear out there, and that’s a tough one to pinpoint. It’s kind of like boats. I often wonder how there gets to be so many manufacturers and models I’ve never heard of yet alone seen, and I wonder how they compete with all the stock that’s available new or used. Yet, there they are coming off the assembly line and somebody is buying them. New and used.

I’ve worked for several large companies that held millions of dollars in debt, and there are well run companies that can turn that into an advantage, and poorly run or greedy companies that cannot. That is, perhaps, why it is reported that American companies have been reported (2 years ago) to have 6.6 trillion dollars in debt. $100 million and $500 million in debt doesn’t sound so bad now, does it? It sure would if it was my debt.

Overpriced Gibsons & greedy sellers
I know this has been said many times before, but here is another example of why Gibson is in trouble.
The SG 12-string neck-through was originally priced $3,999 by Gibson in 2016. A Vintage Sunburst is still available brand new from Thomann at a greatly reduced $2,545, yet a greedy ebay seller is trying to sell used Cherry for $3,499. The links to support all these numbers can easily be found on Google.

The original Gibson list price should have been $2,500. Gibson alienated its customer base with overpricing, and greedy sellers continue to exploit unwary customers. Fender seems to understand this; the highest priced new Fenders sell for $2,000. Customer loyalty only goes so far.
