I would say it would have something to do with the springs holding the bridge together inside the body. I'm sure they wouldn't manufacture guitars with blocked trems the hillbilly way (IE: blocking it off with a piece of wood like I did with my Strat).

So take off the back plastic cover on your Strat, if it has 5 springs instead of 3, I'd say its probably because of that. But take note: even then the springs have to be arranged a certain way to make the trem usable.

BTW (Edit): Nice sig. Has a bit of a ring to it.

The trem is 'stopped' by a piece of wood which sits between the trem block and the back of the trem cavity rout such that the bridge sits flat against the top of th guitar. Removing the block and seting up the bridge to 'float' as it pleases you is all that is required.

I have my trem blocked the same way EC blocked off the trem on Blackie. All you do is tighten the trem claw all the way up to the body and put all 5 springs on. It's totally reversible if you ever want to unblock it.

Mine is blocked with all five springs in place and was done so by my tech when the Custom Shop failed to do it. He opened the back of a Clapton and cut and matched a block of wood to size. My '97 had to be done that way because I acquired used, without a stopped block.
