My cousins live out on the Island - E Farmingdale. When we all moved from the City, some moved out to the Island, some to the Pokies, some to Jersey. I'm the idiot that moved to the MidWest.
Power jazzbass I would not mind the Midwest now days. I wonder if the cost of living is better then Maryland. I no in the past when out in the midwest on trips home prices and things were so different then here but I guess the pay scale would be to. And my guess is things are tough everywhere right now with gas and taxes and everything else.

I didn't mean to offend anyone with the Midwest comment, hence the winking emoticon. I actually love it here. If I'd stay out in NYC, I would not live the American dream right, like owning a house, white fence(not picket  ), etc. Green Bay is a small city with small city friendlyness. Gas is cheaper, taxes not so much, economy more stabil I think compared to the East or West Coast. One thing tho, can't take the East Coast out of me sometimes, at least that's what my wife says - she's from WI. I make about $500 less comapared to my counterpart in the East Coast working for the same company. Granted, I've been with the same company since '94, started as a 48 state/Canada driver. Yes semi driver.

Ya PowerJazzBass just to buy a house near me is a 350,000 and up, most are over 500,000+ then the state adds its 3000+ a year in taxs gas@electric bills averge 350 to 400 a month and the cost of car ins. its bad and if you have a teen driver and give them a car thats 2500 a year just for them if there good . I have to say Maryland is expensive to live in. And I will not stay here when I retire we have been looking at buying a place in Ireland but they do not make it easy to do that but we ahave a few years to go .Every time I have been to Ireland I loved it.

Well, property is about $80k - $500k here in GB, I live where it's about $125k up. My taxes are about $3200/yr, but I see where it goes in the community. So as much as I whine about the taxes (which incl school tax btw). I don't mind it at all here.

Our claim-to-fame is the Rogue River, and that we're the #1 or 2 best place to retire.. :( (I'm 18, I got a few more years to go...)

How far is that from Coos Bay? My stepmother is originally from there.

I lived in Coos Bay OR. in the late 70's.

I'm from Port Orford. 'Bout an hour south of Coos and an hour north of Cal. Love it here!!

My wife and I moved here in '96 from Seattle. Couldn't deal with I-5 anymore. Great place to grow up -- way too big now! We were both players in Washington '70s - mid 90's. (+ Can, AK, ID, OR, MT)

Nice to meet some fellow Oregonians!!

I haven't been to Coos Bay in about 5 years, I think it's about an hour's drive north and then about 60 or so miles west. Our nearest coast is Crescent City, or Brookings which are about 90 minutes-2 Hours. (depending on how fast you drive  )
GP is mainly made up of So. Cal 'refugees' who come up here to live,
I happen to be one of em, but I was only 2 when we moved...
You lived up here too huh, Chet? That's pretty cool.
Man, I need to go to the coast now! :P

I could not tell ya where most of our taxes go. My Son just came home from a road trip to Ohio his first on his own and the first thing he said was Maryland has the worst roads there are. They are now talking about when you take your car in to have its daily emmission rip off check they would like to charge you for the miles driven between checks as a road use tax I hope that one dont go through. Thats is why they claimed they raised cost of tag stickers a few years ago that cost me almost 500 for them.

You should drive up North to PA, they have horrible roads - the whole state. My mom lives up there, man, in the winter they don't even plow the Toll roads. Get this, my stepdad just told me they're thinking of making I80 a toll road too?! Privatize toll road off course. So no Interstate system is going to be free in PA except I79 I guess. She pays school tax that is seperate from her property tax there in PA too. Weird.

I still have cousins in the city. My uncle lives in Wantaugh. If it wasn't for those summers I'd still be back there. I miss the food, people, concerts. I'd live in central Jersey, an hour from N.Y. and Philly. Concerts galore!

Half the time, that is. The rest of the week I'm in the county of Devon in the South West of England - somewhere on the bottom edge of Dartmoor. It looks like this:

If you look closely you can see the Hound of the Baskervilles coming over the brow of the hill...

Looking north from that point there is only one road for about 40 miles. In my densely populated country that passes for deepest wilderness - though Frankie from Australia would laugh his socks off at that.
