Art Bell passed away last night at his home in Parumph, Nevada due to unknown causes. To late-night talk-radio junkies, conspiracy theorists, and fans of the paranormal he was the undisputed king and appeared as a guest character in several sci-fi television shows, most notably "The X Files" and "Dark Skies". Art served as a medic in the US Air Force in the early '60s and began his career in radio after completing his military commitment. He fathered the Coast To Coast show after purchasing a radio station (KNYE in Parumph, aka "The Kingdom Of Nye") and his call-in guests sometimes included musical luminaries like William Gibbons and Joseph Walsh. Mr. Bell's hallmark baritone voice can still be heard in syndication and his loss will be mourned by many.

RIP, Art

I read about this yesterday. My girlfriend and I used to listen to him all of the time. Maybe the mother ship picked him up with David Bowie. RIP, Art. :(

Thanks for the heads up Rog.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I used to listen to him way back when when he did political-talk radio. His change to the ethereal topics was so much more interesting and unique; that show back in the day was very addicting. Even though a lot of it would be listened to with a "Yeah, right ... " attitude, it was still VERY enthralling to listen to. RIP, sir...

Thanks for letting us know about Art, Arjay. He and his dramatic guests used to keep me entertained after my night shift, and I’d listen to him here in the ‘Peg till early morning when I’d.eventually fall asleep. His show was pretty interesting as UFO sightings were not only recorded and discussed for some time in this area, but with SAC just south of us and NORAD having a Canadian version of Blue Book here in the city, there was plenty of sceptical activity. Art fit right in.

Maybe Art has finally discovered the truth behind those legendary stories. He’d fit right in.

He was a true "American Character", I would not be surprised if they are still talking about him a hundred years from now.

Rest in peace Art
