For some reason about 8 years ago I experienced a guitar diaspora and I got rid of my 2 main axes. One was a 76 Flying V that I gave to my nephew as a graduation present and one was a 1987 Black Strat. I got the Flying V back last year when my nephew decided that he couldn't sit and play it and wanted my beater very used Martin D-15M instead. I sold the strat to guy in Sweden who let me know he needed some money and wanted to know if I wanted it back. YES. So my friend who lives here and daughter lives in Sweden arranged to have her bring it with her for her Easter visit.

So voila, it's back. It is so much lighter than I remember. It plays so well. I won't let it go again. All original except the pickguard.

Anyone else sell a guitar, regret it, and get it back?

Very very nice instrument there. Just curious, did you buy it back for the same exact amount you sold it for?

Exactly the same amount of US dollars, converted into Swedish Kronas both times.

I realize it doesn't take into account changes in currency values but what the heck, it was a good price then and is now and the guy is suffering from health issues and I am glad to help and also have her back.

Great story and not hard to see why you wanted that baby back. Twice the enjoyment albeit not so much for the previous owner sad to say. Have good times with your Strat.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

My very first guitar was a "borrowed" red pre-CBS Fender Duosonic. In 1982, I graduated to buying a '79 Gibson SG Standard, where I had to give the DuoSonic back to its original owner -- who still has it. One day, that DuoSonic will be mine again ... and, yes, I still have the SG too.

Thanks folks. I changed strings tonight. Wow, I couldn’t angle the back of the tremolo to get the strings out so I thought I must have blocked it years ago (like I have to every trem I have ever owned). I took the back plate off and it wasn’t blocked. The springs are not rusted, just strong as hell. The action is so perfect (I like it low) that I am surprised. For it to be angled to where the holes are to the left of the holes of the backplate I would think that the saddles would be relatively elevated but no (it’s a right handed guitar) Maybe springs get stiffer with age?

Whatever the case I am happy about it. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it is how I am handling it.

Very cool.
I've never gotten one back that I let go. I've sold 3 that I wish I had not let go... my '78 Antigua Strat, and a Kramer DMZ-2000. The 3rd was an Epi Les Paul. It was nothing special, but I loved the finish and it was my only LP.

I had a 79 Antigua once loved it and sold it for this one in 87. Wish I could get the Antigua back. No earthly idea where it is. Probably somewhere in Arkansas.

Love that Strat Phil415.
I traded a guitar (2013 Standard MIM Tele) for a Hot Rod DeVille 4x10, and after a week or two with the amp (and not finding a sound I liked with any of my guitars), I TOTALLY regretted the trade. Unfortunately, so did the guy I made the trade with, because when he saw my ad for the DeVille on Craigslist he asked if I was the guy he traded with (recognized the amp with casters)---I got back to him, and offered the trade back, but he'd already sold the Tele, and didn't have the money to buy the amp back. I ended up selling the amp to an Iowa State student, and to this day still sit Tele-less and remorseful.
Why Tele-less you ask...since I had the money to buy one when I sold the DeVille? Like a freaking idiot I bought a Deluxe Roadhouse Strat instead...and immediately regretted that as well. LOL! Found a buyer for the Roadhouse, and instead of buying a Tele, I purchased a Pro Junior...and it's the best move I ever made. So a Tele will have to wait.

I've never gotten back anything I have ever sold or traded, and have probably (in my life-time of gear) pretty much broken even money wise. There are transactions I've regretted, and transactions I still celebrate to this day. It is what it is. So cool that you got that 87' Strat back...don't think I could let something that beautiful go in the first place.
