This is pretty funny. Best part is when he gets to the Gibson "Reverse V".

Any models he missed? I would add the BC Rich Warlock. It looks ok if GWAR is playing it I guess, but other than that ... yeesh

Thanks, ghost_of_strings. I can’t disagree with his assessment. If they aren’t the worse production guitars ever, they are a close second. I agree about the “Reverse V”. Some of these pointed mistakes call out for wearing body armor.

It’s a shame when a reputable company with a proven history can make guitars look like a chimpanzee designed them. Sorry chimps. I wonder who the big ape was that gave the approval :?: What a zoo!

That reminded me of The Monkees. :P

The Warlock (and Ironbird), like many other designs from the 80s was certainly a "single purpose" body like my old Hondo H-1, but even the imported "NJ" series BCR models were not particularly "bad" guitars.
It's certainly a subjective thing... I didn't find that headless Kramer to be THAT bad, OTOH, I don't see how anyone that doesn't work at a pizza place would find that Gorky Park Kramer remotely good looking.

Gibson has certainly had some real (eyeroll) winners though... the Firebird-X, the Firebrand LP and SG models, Reverse-V, and most recently, they ripped off the Jackson Roswell Rhoads with the new offset V design.
As lawsuit-happy as Gibson was in the Norlin era, maybe Grover should go after them... but I think even Grover no longer wants his name attached to that design :D
OTOH, the Reverse-V solves the problem of playing seated for those who can't get the hang of playing in the classical position.

I've got a Kramer Rhoads offset V that can't be played seated without an old style flat 90-degree cable (modern angled tubular housings won't work). Rather than use the Strat style recessed jack like Jackson, they used a regular square jack plate, but they stuck it on the lower half of the inside of the "V".
Play it "normally" and like any "V", it slides to the right.
Play it classically, and the cable is jammed into your thigh :banghead:
Horrible, horrible design.

Not mine:

Good post, Rich. I agree taste is in the eyes and ears of the beholder. Except when it isn’t. I agree with you . . . a bad design is simply that. Put a steering wheel in the trunk of the car and see where that gets ya.

I spent a lot of time at music store in the 1980s and was lucky enough to test drive lots of crazy things...

The Aluminum neck Kramers
Guitars with carbon-fiber necks that were paper thin
All different kinds of guitar synths (I did not like any of them)
