I guess mine were more in-store poster ads instead of the magazine ads. The Fairy Tales with the stories at the bottom...those are repros of the magazine ads, right?

As far as I know that is the case - but I am by no means an expert. Just a fan of the design, art, and subject matter of course. Heck, I'd love to have those in poster form - as in-store promotions from Fender they are probably more rare. Unfortunately, that means it will be that much harder for you to find the missing pieces. I bet they're out there somewhere... :)

Anyone happen to read that?

"Don't be surprised if there's a 2001 AD Telecaster."

I lol'd, cause there actually is one.

Yes, thousands of them, actually. Hilarious.

Stuff like this always reminds me of how, according to Back to the Future, we should now have flying cars. :P

And, speaking of Back to the Future, I just saw this in another thread and thought it was awesome!

Thanks for the vintage ads guys. I love seeing that stuff.

+1 Same for me.
Those mid-'60s ads show that the Jazzmaster and the Jaguar were being pushed harder than the Strat ... the Strat a third-place finisher? Never!
Ha!

Lawrence Welk's guitarist Buddy Merrill was one of Fender's early "artists: Buddy played a Stratocaster. When Buddy was drafted, Neil LeVang took over the seat. By then, the Jazzmaster had been marketed. That was the instrument Neil played on the TV broadcasts. When Buddy returned from service, both were retained, and each played their respective instruments. Neil was often seen playing acoustic as well.

As you observed, there was an intensive push for the higher end instrument. It finally found it's niche, but has never been as popular or as well acclaimed as the Strat, even to have received an industrial design award for achievement in the 20th century. Quite a feather in the cap of the three principals involved in bringing it to realization.

I didn't want to part with mine, either!

Doc
Hey zzdoc then you remember these. First one Buddy Merrill the others Neil LeVang.

Neil LeVang
As hard as it is to believe, Mr. LeVang did in fact play a 1957 Fender Mandocaster as a member of the Lawrence Welk Orchestra—although he more often played the guitar.
