Going into my second year at Miami University (the one in Ohio, which was a University before Florida was a state).

I love it. Majoring in Political Science, trying to go into law school after that, then become a lawyer in the music entertainment field. I figure if I can't make it big in music, might as well try to stay as close to it as possible because it's the only thing I enjoy.

Took me 9 years to graduate but I did it (I took a lot of time off to work for a living)...

University of Hawaii at Manoa
Kauai Community College
Houston Baptist University
University of Houston (B.A. English Lit major, Studio Art minor)

Any Hawaiian University will be a great experience (especially if you surf). Skip the Houston Universities unless it's Rice Univ or unless you are poor like I was and actually live in Houston.

Texas A&M or Univ of Texas are great scholastic schools. :!:

I went to the University of Washington, majoring in Civil Engineering. One memory is that the football team wasn't as horrible then as it is now...

Same here, though it took a while.

I earned a generic AA degree many years ago, then I went to a major US university, with no clue about what to do there. I think my real major was girls, video games, and MTV (hey, it was the '80's!).

I went into the military to pay off my college loans, I wanted to go into a Journalism field but they assigned me as a Medic instead. I had a knack for it, so after several years I got out and went to a Bachelors in Science/Nursing program, then rejoined the military. It was hard to get a civilian Nursing job then as all the Hospitals were cutting Nursing positions (think 'Health Care Reform' and how it scared Hospitals' bottom lines). I retired a couple of years ago, and never looked back. Post-graduate or
Doctorate degree and more work? No thank you. I've got a pension. I spent 10 years overseas in three continents including Iraq-I've had all the travel, extra responsibility, and hardship I can stand.

What's funny is that I knew and still know of friends that are saving for their children's college fund-not just so that the kids can have a education and a better life, but also to GET THEM OUT OF THE HOUSE. I never got that kind of support from my parents, and being from a little town of 5000 people, I didn't need an excuse to get away ASAP. Just because a kid goes to College/University is NO guarantee that they won't be right back where they started-in their parents' house.

Moral: If you're going to College, get a usuable degree. It really doesn't matter WHERE it comes from, but the bottom line is that you HAVE to graduate. Then you get to join the rest of the working world. I can think of a ton of lines from Animal House, but I think that you get my drift. It's not JUST the degree or where you got it from, but the end result that really counts.

Went to Central Washington University for two years, '77-'79. Was trying to dbl major in Eng and Music.

Was never a very good student in public school. I did very well in music and art, but was lousy at academics. Was just pushed through the system. Was nuts thinking I could pull off college, but really wanted to know theory.

Went long enough to complete two years of the music theory program and dropped out. Didn't want to take two years of music history.

Went to trade school after high school and learned drafting. Had a great job with a large international firm. After being in the workforce for three years, it was hard to get back into the school mode. Didn't like it and just wanted to go back to making money.

If you're good at school then stay in school!! Get as much education as you can. I just wasn't wired for it -- no worries, no regrets.
My cup overflows! peace :)

Rochester Institute of Technology for engineering - no degree
State University of New York at Alfred - A.A.S. in Data processing
Rochester Institute of Technology - Manufacturing Management - no degree
University of Phoenix - B.S. in Business Information Technology.

My fist school choice was State University of New York at Fredonia for Sound Recording Technology. I got in an argument with the folks in the application process, and never went.

University Wisconsin Stevens Point/UWSP, 4 1/2 years to graduate with a B.S. (ironic title I always thought) in Communications and Sociology.

Choice was made based on $$ and locale, I could commute while maintaining jobs I'd had from high school to pay for it. Lived at the college last year and 1/2, just to try "real" college life.

Wherever you go, keep your wits about you, very easy to take that initial step to freedom a little to far. 8)

Can't believe I graduated from there 21 years ago. Where does you life go?

That's too bad... I looked at their recording department when I auditioned at Fred, and it was quite nice.

Focus from the beginning or be prepared to spend a lot more time, money and effort than necessary. 'Could not get act together on major. At all.

Began in engineering
Went to architecture
Moved on to chemistry
Then on to history

Then 15+ years as dropout

'Went back in late 30s and earned BA and MS in Business, which been 'berry berry good. Being in U as a working fulltime-plus adult for 3 years 10 months straight SUCKED!!!!!!!!

Sucked sucked sucked sucked.

But end result, those degrees, GREAT for job, example to kids (all 3 daughters now graduated from U and big-employed), soul, lifestyle, self respect and guitar collection.

Choose your major after doing research. Will there be good jobs after grad?. Get multiple opinions.

Figure on 3 dedicated, honest hours out of class work for every one in, if you want a hot GPA. Employers like hot GPAs. And it's with you the rest of your life.

Best of fortune.
