In this video, which is quite good, Paul Simon claims the EM7th is the same as a G6. I am not sure about that. I have looked in my chord books but cannot verify.

Any one here up on their theory?

Without looking into this specific case, he is most likely referring to the 2 chords sharing the same notes. The name of the chord will depend on the context (key of the song).

Em7 has these notes (E G B D).

G6 has these notes (G B D E).

So yes, both chords do have the same notes.
