Wow this forum isn't what it used to be. Hardly any activity. Is it my imagination?

The new threshold you must pass before you can monetize is:

Watch hours in the previous 12 months: 4000
Subscribers: 1,000 needed for review

This was just changed in January. I should have opted in a long time ago but I didn't and now I feel like 1000 subscribers is a long way off. :( If I had 1000 subscribers , I would easily have 4000 watch hours (currently 3000+ in the last 12 months).

How do you get more subscribers?? I posted my first video Apr 20, 2009, And I only have 118 subs. One of my vids has 18,000+ views. I'm doing something wrong.

Thanks for the idea you have proposed above! I am excited to have an account here. Browsing this website is a real enjoyment for me!

The b7567 channel?
You have 30 videos, none in the last 8 months, a mish-mash of subjects, no personal intros... There's nothing that tells us anything about you, nothing to capture interest and make people ask "Wow, that was cool, what else does this guy/gal have?"

Basically the same reason that most channels don't have a lot of subs and views, and the reason I don't share my channel. It's there as a repository for videos that I might want to share with individuals or forums on a very limited basis.

If you hope to actually make any money, you are going to have to basically produce a TV show and treat it as such. Guys like Woodeso, Dave's World of Fun Stuff, AvE, Stanger, Guitologist, Angove, Gelvin, etc...

These guys are putting hours into making videos that are interesting, and that make people want to come back and see what else they've made.
They kick out a new video every couple of days, or at the very least once a week. They create a personal connection with the viewer, where you would recognize them in a bar and want to have a beer with them.

You have 18k views on a video that would be of interest to many Mustang owners due to the thumbnail. It, as well as the rest of your highest-view videos, are coming up on searches for "Mustang III" and "Demo", probably have some forum links, etc....

You make some great points Rich. My other channel is finally starting to get a little traction, and it is more as you described. The only thing missing was regular uploads which we have started doing now.

One other helpful part of the puzzle seems to be using social media platforms to gently push out your content. You can’t be too obvious about promoting your site because people get turned off to that. Personally I just don’t “do” Facebook but I’m finding Twitter is a great place to gain genuine interest.

Ya, I wouldn't sweat the Facebook postings. It is very rare that I even view anything on the PC that I've picked up from FB... maybe a good SRV or Blackmore video.
FB is great for views, but for me, not subs (I only sub from the desktop, and 90% of my Youtube time is on the desktop with decent speakers)

For me, and I may be unusual, but I generally find interesting new material that I'm likely to sub to after seeing it in a related video from another one I'm watching, or in a search result (and that's where the thumbnails help). I probably have 100 subs, though maybe only 30 of them are still really active, some I subbed after watching an interesting video, then noticed that the video was 5 years old and they had no new content.

Another way you can support each other is to LIKE and COMMENT on videos. Just throw a comment on someone's video once in a while. That's huge. And watch hours. If you click on a video, try to watch the whole thing. Or at least let it run through while you go get yourself a sandwich.

Thanks SkySqueak!

Just want to throw this out there....

You don't need to have your own YouTube channel to subscribe/like/comment on YouTube channels and videos. Just log in with any Google account and you can support your local Fender Forum youtubers.

If you like the free content available on YouTube in general, this is how you can thank some of the people who spend their time, energy and money putting content out there.

Here's my latest You Tube video that I made today, since schools were closed due to heavy rain and flooding. Some of the kids on my school bus knew I had all sorts of instruments at my house, and the other day one of them asked me if I could "rock out". Well, I believe my video shows that I can! LOL... 8)
'95 Fender Strat paired with a 2011 Frontman 65r, gain channel on and "mid/contour" button enabled for a scooped mids sound (trying to get Tom Scholz/Boston type of sound).

Edit: Oh, and I have my own You Tube channel "ButchA61".... You'll see me playing trumpet, keyboards, Gretsch hollow body electric, violin, etc...etc... Lord only knows what...
