This, too, has changed here and there through the years although currently it's just me.

Wow, an incredibly accurate description of our typical IT meetings! Haha!! :D

Seriously, have you guys bugged our office or something?! It's almost like you're there, listening in! Hee hee! :D

**OUCH.** That definitely doesn't sound fun at all. Best reason to stick to Strats and Teles that I've seen yet!

Believe it or not, overall visitor engagement is actually UP rather than down over the time period you state, and there are actually far more newer members joining currently than there were in '14 as well. That said, I totally understand your point re: the content itself - and do wish we had a higher percentage of deep / meaningful thread activity happenin'.

What is happening to the Fender Brand or for that matter, most American guitar brands? Is it all over? So sad if it is.

I can't share specific detail, obviously ... but it's actually been a great few years for Fender, and 2017 has proven no different. Some really game-changing new gear coming up here in just a few weeks at NAMM as well.

Also interesting this past year has been the sheer level of interest around our Fender Play digital learning offering - it, too, is doing quite well and sits as proof positive that there's a robust community out there thirsty for the guitar.

We must all remain banded together (no pun intended) and prevent this outcome! :D

Thanks Brad, I appreciate your time and the clear answers.

Can't argue with any of that. This forum has very little spam, and way less than previously.

And like instruction manuals, many people don't read terms of service agreements or notifications. Even if you put the "first post delay" notice in red 72 point bold font, some people will be oblivious.

I've noticed a general decline in activity on all guitar and amp forums. People seem to be more interested in posting selfies and watching cat videos on Facebook, or calling each other rude names on Twitter. Or debating "flat Earth" and the "NWO globalists" on conspiracy forums.

Absolutely - no problem!

Yessir. Once in a blue moon I'll accidentally overlook a spammer and allow him/her through, but it's definitely been a rare occasion since we instantiated this policy.

Ain't that the truth!

Also all true - there are definitely MANY more outlets competing for one's attention these days! (And I'll be the first to admit to being part of the problem as I've really been enjoying Instagram of late. :-) )

Do you recollect that "Fender Lounge" plaque I gave you a few years back......?

Haha - that made me laugh out loud! And, what's funny is that I actually do have that thing hung up in my office still to this day. It's actually a really cool piece!

Here's a couple wishes for the new year:

The original problem in the topic (new member first post lag followed by them not returning vs. spam fighting) is probably a constant tightrope walk. But I've noticed quite a few members getting a faster answer on those other forums and not becoming active here, so please keep this under surveillance.

Another big issue is the pic posting. I've taken a habit on quoting my own instructions - too lazy to type the same liturgy weekly. So, consider allowing pics uploaded straight on the forum. At the very least, publish (pic hosting) site-specific instructions topic on the Guidelines section, with a BIG headline so it'll be noticed.

I detect a certain amount of sarcasm towards us members there...

Happy New Year, Brad!

Hosting pics takes a lot of server memory. The forums that host pics are all for-profit forums with third-party ads and paying sponsors. They use pic hosting as a way to swell their membership in order to get higher rates from their advertisers.

Or they only let "contributing members" who have donated money to the forum's owner store pics on the site. (Hey, Moe's Tavern is going back to "contributing members only" in 2018.)

I think you mean "disk space" and pictures take up very little space. These days, it's really a non-issue.

In that case, the Fender Play popup I close 15 times a day should pay the bill, no? "third-party" means they have to share the money with someone else.

Happy New Year, Brad!

Lemme see. I think I found a solution. Perhaps, we could take the posts to a higher level with deep meaning. That would be ‘Far Out’. Especially the musical ones:

Om.
FSB

Happy New Year All :D
