@strayedstrater - Thanks for all that info. My main problem is I am terrible when it comes to electronics. But you left something out that I bet will be big in the future. And that's Arduino/Raspberry Pi setups. Maybe my next axe will have a pocket to store a Raspberry. Guess I need to go see if that's been done yet.

Looks great hope it's a success, FYI I think you could also use Micro:bit instead of the Raspberry Pi to run Arduino as it is a bit smaller and more compact, might fit easier

Bravo, IndyRocker! Spidey would.be proud. Those knobs truly add value to the overall look. I like it. I bet your little fella does too. :D

If you would like any of the 3D models for any of this just ask

IndyRocker, first of all these models look amazing. I work in a public school district and would love to pass these on to the teachers. Maybe they can work it into a collaboration with the music department. How can I get a hold of the models?

mud - Thanks. I really am hoping mine works. But I got a bit of a confirmation as to the playability of this design the other day. A guy in our 3D printer group from the UK had a doner Squire that he said wasn't playing well. So he printed this guitar design and I think he even finished his body the same day I finished mine. His is now assembled though and he said it sounds amazing. Here is his build of this guitar...

ghost_of_strings - thanks for the kind words. And you are more than welcome to share the files. Everything is shared on Thingiverse - Click Here. The project is called Spidocaster. But please inform anyone interested to follow me on Thingiverse because in a few weeks I am releasing a version 2 which is basically a bit of a redesign to fix a few things. I am also going to make a few improvements. There will also be a few options as far as pickguards, knobs, etc. Where are you located? You can also tell the teachers if they would like any help to contact me directly. My email is krowe33 and that is with the huge company that has not had a bite taken out of its logo

As a teaser... When time permits I have a few more designs in the works. Iron man is coming soon. With LED lighting built into the body to resemble the power supply in Iron Man's chest. My goal is to constantly improve on the functionality of these guitars, and to create designs that are fun in hopes of sparking interest of the younger crowd. I am considering a cool Paw Patrol design for the Strat Jr I just ordered. But I fear by the time that is done my son will have moved on to something else. I just hope it's Transformers! :D

Thank you so much for that! We have 3D Printers in our High School and Middle School. I could see this being a great project to get the kids excited about the technology. This looks so cool, I love how the numbers wrap around:Image

Just curious. Are the colours all part of the plastic (say for the Spidey knobs), or is there colour applied like an ink jet or other?

If so with applied colour, what’s the plan for durability?

TIA

FSB - There are printers that will print in multiple colors. I am not there yet. I designed those knobs to be printed professionally with an SLA printer (the printers that fire a laser through a liquid to create the print). The professional printing services can do an amazing job with small stuff. I am not sure if they can do color prints. But I figured I would just paint the knobs then cover them with a clear coat.

ghost_of_strings - Would you like me to design a guitar with their school logo on it or something? That is great that they have 3d printers. I wish my middle and high school had cool stuff like that. The school I went to was actually behind in the technology department. I talked to one of the teachers there now a couple months ago at a little fair outside the children's museum here and he was showing off one of the Nao robots they have. He said the school corporation bought 15 of them. They are like $6000 each so I think that was a really big step for them to take. But I think it is a very smart move.

Thanks, Indy. I kinda figured that to be the case, and I know your method will work just fine.

I remembered that NASA 3D printing is contracted in space with Zero-Gravity. My thinking was that there could be benefits to the printer doing the whole job in a specific need like in a Space Station. Less material to transport and store, less work, and it would last longer under extreme usage, amongst other things.

I wasn’t sure it could even be done as you pointed out from a professional application. I can’t say for sure, but I believe NASA’s is not multi-coloured (yet). I can see where that can be very expensive. Now I know. Thanks, again, Indy. :D

Cheers!
