Hi

I'm new here, just wondering if i could get some advise

I bought a brand new Fender telecaster offset ( Magnificent 7 ) in july last year, i have only used it a few times in my house, never gigged, always kept in it's case in a temperature controlled room.

I came to re string it the other day as the originals where pretty bad and noticed some paint had started to sink, you can only see it at a certain angle in a certain light but it's there.

I wrote to Fender (through GAK) who i purchased the guitar from and they are claiming it must have been knocked, they also said there would be line's going to the sink point, but there is, it looks like a small nike tick in the flesh so i sent them a video showing this but they are not even willing to look at it in person, instead they make all there assumptions based on a photo that was really hard to capture.

They then got back to me again saying it wouldn't just be in one spot, so i checked the guitar again and sure enough, another spot is starting to appear.

I also went on to contact some other magnificent 7 owners who happen to have there's up for sale at the moment and low and behold, 2 of them have exactly the same mark as mine.

I would upload a photo but not quite sure how to on here, i do however have a video on youtube showing the mark.

Let me know what you think, thanks in advance.

If you are talking about that small ding in the finish, it could have been knocked against something at any time, whether at the factory, or by the owner, hard to say. If that little blemish bothers you, return the guitar. Personally, I wouldn't worry about something that insignificant, and that no one else will ever notice.

Welcome to the Forum arronqqq. Interesting first post.
I did notice the blemish. I have a few of those on the back of one of my guitars, not a fender, because the blemish is on the front I sense your concern. My guess, it is an imperfection in the wood and would hope Fender remedies it to your satisfaction. Stick around though this a good Forum for anything guitar related.

Looks like some filler that shrunk when completely dried/cured. Unfortunate, as a LE guitar should have received better QA/QC. It would need a re-finish specialist to repair, IMO and may need a complete re-finish.
Fender should get back to taking care of customers, a replacement body shouldn't be out of the question.

I agree with sfceric64; looks like filler that shrunk because it wasn't allowed time to dry. But that's only if the guitar didn't take a physical hit. You'd have to be 100% certain no one other than you had access to the instrument at any time, and nothing ever bumped the guitar there, such as a wireless transmitter attached to a strap, or a straplock accidentally smacking the upper horn. That's a lot of ifs. FWIW, I have dings like that in my black PBass--though not quite as large in diameter--from my Shure wireless transmitter bumping the body several inches below the upper horn while I'm taking the instrument off and putting it on my stand. Doesn't take much to cause a little "doot" like that.

Sorry to hear of your problem, arronqqq.

Today I was filling some problems in my older hardwood floor. I’ve done a fair amount of woodwork including finishing as I know others have here. Incidentally, my filler can move with the humidity and other pressure.

I watched the video before reading the followup posts. On one hand with that Tele it looks like a divot that was swiped rather than dinged. It doesn’t appear scratched as it might be though. Interesting.

My initial thought also was that it could be a filler issue, and when I read the other posts it seems possible. Can’t say for sure. Lots of things can exist under a paint job. Tough call.

I bought a new acoustic from a competitor this year, and only later did I discover two blemishes on the neck. In my case one was how the stain took, and the other was a small pinheaded size dent, simply an annoyance out of sight, both on the neck.

I did take it back to the store, but the other cosmetics (and playability) outweighed the less than perfect axe.

Some of the competition also makes very great guitars, and yet, they have been criticized for lacking quality control pretty much across their whole line, and if not, they may have an existing design flaw that has yet to be corrected. But, even that gets overlooked by fans of the product that gets the job done. Fender has built a reputation that, arguably, overall does a great job. Still, like everything, once in a while a less desirable product or result slips through the cracks. In recent history I think Fender has made some of their better guitars. What do I know? Only what I’ve seen since the early sixties. :P
Would I take Willie Nelson’s Trigger with it’s gaping hole and messed up finish? Or Jimi’s Strat with burn marks? How about Keith’s Tele? You betcha!

A road worn stock finish? Naw. I do have my limitations and prefer to do that myself. YMMV
