these are original designs by a luthier. he can rout everything. kill switch, push/pull, another tone pot, 5 way switch, HSH (with F spaced bridge hummer) and even the routs for the TremKing TK-1. do you guys think i should go for swamp ash or alder? i want a tone that can deliver devastating ryhthms but tightly picked solo work. i really want to hear picking attack, and the PAFs already gave me half of that. so help me with your input. thanks!

Man, no offence but I would just get a Tele or Strat body. Man... Telecasters are soooooo cool.

If I were going to a luthier for custom work, I would ask him or her to select the wood. The reason is that they will have a much better command of what properties they are trying to build to. Also, they will be able to evaluate a piece of wood and tell whether it is suitable for their project. In the case of ash, for example, it can vary dramatically in weight, even within a single plank of it.

Also, if you're after a transparent finish, a person familiar with woods will be able to tell which board will likely have the best figure in the wood. A casual observer will only look at the surface and pick what looks best. Appearance can change dramatically once a plank is shaped.

If you are going for an HSH what about mahogany? Certain people have had good things to say about mahogany with a bolt-on neck - sort of brings something extra to the party. Especially with 'buckers, you'd have thought...

That bottom body shape in your pic has a hint of the old Fender Performer about it. I wonder if your builder could go the whole hog on that, add in the offset lower bouts and make you a modern mahogany HSH Performer guitar. Now that would be something different.

Just my personal preference, but I'd go with the top one in swamp ash.

Mahogany is all punch, but more for the low end, for bass it would be good. Guitar, not sure.
