My local Fender dealer has been in business since before time and this stuff is really hurting them, They droped or were droped by Gibson a year or two ago and now this.

Really stinks if you ask me, hope Fender isnt going down a dark raod here like well you know the CBS years.

The heros of Fender are gone now, who will remind them to keep the quality and do what they do best and not try to be trendy.

and the sad part is, Fender has been making some of it's best guitars ever in just the last few years, stuff that will be the grail in years to come, I hope going big box wont kill that.

Remember CBS !!!!!!!!! dont let that happen again.

'Hope the instrument market fares in the end better than the hobby shop one did as a result of 'more outlet options.'

The internet killed off many of the remaining neighborhood hobby shops that video games' allure left critically wounded, but still breathing....

The up side:

Fender guitars in Best Buy will lead to a lot of impulse purchases. Those buyers will soon get tired of them and sell them to pawn shops. That means more high-quality used instruments for the rest of us! :P

Guys: if you want to keep discussing this particular topic, feel free to launch a new thread on it. I'm going ahead and locking this particular thread as it started out with some confusion and I myself offered up some downright incorrect information on the matter -- not exactly my proudest 'forum moderation' moment as you can imagine. I've been waiting to see if the thread would die off on its own but naturally it's a thought-provoking topic and it doesn't seem to be doing so. :-)
