Welcome to the Forum katia. A mint 62 Jaguar is a treasure. Take your time selling that. You never know, you might want to keep her.

Hi. Katia. SBLS is right. You certainly don’t want to be too quick to sell it at a price less than it’s true selling value.

Back in 1962 I played a Strat and that was worth hundreds of dollars. Today the same ‘62 guitar can be worth thousands. Same for the Jag.

1962 is a popular vintage year for Fender sound. In competition with Gibson, 1962 was the introduction year for Jaguars which, although they did not gain the popularity of Telecasters and Strats, were also popular in that era especially with features that Surf musicians desired. This may have something to do with the popularity differences and choice. 1965 was another vintage year of that early 60’s era. Jags have since been used for other music such as Curt Cobain and punk, shoegazing, alternative, and indie. So there is a renewed interest.

That said, pricing the ‘62 will be likely less than a similar Telecaster or Stratocaster of the same vintage. So this may give you some guidance. We’re talking the real price; however, a true collector may desire it and pay more (rare colours have more desirability), although unlikely.

As SBLS mentioned, you may want to keep it. It’s a very nice guitar. :D
Good Luck.

FSB

It would be good to sell thevJag with the case as the case has some value too if it is original.

There is a slight chance there may be some advantage in selling the case separately (as for a collector), I don’t know; but, it is an alternative you might want to explore should that be a better deal for you. I would make the guitar sale first though.

Some light reading: Reverb.com 1962 Jaguar Pricing

That reverb (and of course ebay, craigslist) are some possible selling channels. Googling 'vintage guitars Canada' brings a big list more - maybe stratele52 or one of the forum's other Canucks chimes in to help solve which ones are better.

Anyway, pay attention to things like payment options, seller's fee, exclusivity etc. when you list the guitar.
Good pics help - and I'm sure we at the forum would love them, too.

Edit: Forgot to mention (the obvious); selling to a store gets you only a fraction of the money compared to selling direct to the 'end customer'...

I've seen them going from 1100 to over 2k based on many variables.

Here's some on Reverb:

Not being an expert, but my guess is that $1100 Amn. is a little low even with Canadian conversion, Mike. However, sometimes a treasure can be snapped up from some less knowledgeable seller and that adds to the confusing mix.

We have to be sure pricing is not vintage series (copies) and that it is vintage (original) without modifications.

Here’s one, that reputedly was listed at Norman’s in 2016 for $4500 American as commented on by a viewer who suggested $2500 Amn for similar, and $5500 Amn asking price for a matching headstock model suggested at $3500 Amn.

I’m thinking that may not be too unreasonable considering the rarity, ‘62 Teles and Strats, and all.

After searching for prices trending, using Reverb as you did Mike:

https://reverb.com/price-guide/guide/11 ... 2-sunburst

Hope that helps.

I am not at all a vintage expert, but based on what I have seen the prices have gone up. 1962 is a magic year as that is the classic "re-issue" year. $4000-6000 for an all-original Jaguar in good condition is not out of the question. Double that (at least) for a Tele or Strat. My recommendation is to seek out a quality vintage retailer that can give your guitar the most exposure and to solidify the instrument's authenticity for your potential buyers. You should consider an auction too. That guitar has been a part of your family for quite a while, and once it is gone, that guitar is gone forever ... My suggestion is to keep the guitar unless you absolutely need cash right now. There is nothing worse than selling prized possessions, and (after some time passes) not even able to remember what you sold it for ...

I agree with your post, 01GT eibach. 1962 is not the only, but it is one, important year in Fender, and Jaguar was there.

Your idea of an auction might be rewarding as word will get out not only locally, but to prospective buyers elsewhere.

Whatever the case (no pun is intended) that Jag is a very nice guitar.
