When exactly did Fender start selling the Pro Series Tweed cases, instead of the G&Gs?

Another question: was it ever possible to order a different case with a guitar that comes with a particular one? E.g. You wanted an American Standard Tele, but you didn't fancy the SKB molded case, so could you order the guitar with a Black Tolex case or a Tweed (paying a plus if necessary)?

Answer to second question,
Never heard you can order another case, IMO , no.
SKB case is lighter than wood case, better to carry on.

The newer Pro Series Black and Tweed cases are considerably lighter than the G&Gs.

The G&G cases were significantly better than the new rectangular Fender cases.
The new moulded SKB cases are probably the strongest and most secure cases Fender have ever offered.
From an authorized Fender dealer you can order any case in their catalogue ... if you're willing to pay.
All you need is a part number.

You can change the case if you pay the upcharge.

Yes, Fender sells cases as accessories, but the question was: can you buy a GUITAR and order it with a different case than the standard one that comes with that particular model?

With my 2012 Amn Dlx Strat, buying it from a dealer, I did get the option of the tweed case or the SKB at no charge. I liked both cases for different reasons. I went with the SKB because, although bulkier, it is rugged enough to haul in the winter and toss in a packed trunk, blah blah.

Besides, I know the slim case is always available in one form or another, although some are of questionable quality.

I wish my SKB had a small compartment to tuck the trem arm and cable or whatever away. I think that may be the case (sic) today.

Why don't you ask to your dealer ?

^^^^^ This.

A deal like that would have to be prearranged with the retailer at the time of order.
You would say "I want this guitar with that case."
They would figure out how much to up-charge you based on the values of the two cases.
Then they would order this guitar and that case and when it arrived they would switch the cases for you before you came in to pick it up.
They would keep the OEM case, of course.

If you're talking about ordering online and having the items come directly to your home you would have to get on the telephone to make that same arrangement.

You might even be able to get Fender to do it directly.

In all cases I think you would very likely have to have a verbal conversation and negotiate the deal personally.

I tend to agree with the dealer option if at all possible. It was the dealer who made me the offer, not me asking, as to being able to choose whichever case I desired. Although, had I known, I would certainly have asked the same. Nothing ventured - Nothing gained.

1) Purchasing higher end guitar models may give you an advantage as some guitars come with no case, and others with a bag, or lesser/better case.

2) Perhaps, some other customer had made a previous deal or trade that would help you to do a swap.

3) The store may have more or less stock of a certain case, or maybe the one you want is at an affiliate. Promotions also come and go with suppliers.

4) Maybe the dealer will see the trade as a deal maker or they will want to promote a happy customer.

5) Maybe a combined purchase of equipment will offset the difference.

6) Online organization of transactions can sometimes be difficult with policies, software management, or stock management amongst other things. But, it’s worth a try as BMW-KTM pointed out.

7) It has been said everything is negotiable. Except when it isn’t.
