Happy thanksgiving FSB.
Had our turkey yesterday.
The bird spent the night in a smoker at very low heat.
My goodness, it was wonderful.
I sampled something new I'd not tried before called
Naleshnika.
Don't know if I spelled that right.
It was mighty fine.
I sampled several varieties of Scotch I had not tried before.
We ended the day with a game of Werewolves Of Millers Hollow, also new to me.
T'was a good day.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Nalysnyky
(Ukrainian pancakes/crepes)

Nalesniki
(Polish pancakes/crepes)

Filed with fruit, jam, cream cheese, cottage cheese, sweet or savoury.

Also known as blintzes.

Mmmm! I’ve had crepes and blintzes that are similar. But, even with Ukrainian family members I had not heard those names, Matt.

Your dinner sounds delicious. Glad you are having a great holiday.

Happy Thanksgiving back at ya!

This day is full of festivity and Kitchener/Waterloo, Ontario celebrates with a parade to open their 9 day Oktoberfest which is the second largest in the world. Lots of suds and music with bands from Canada and the USA!

Some Thanksgiving turkey, Bavarian smokies, pumpkin pie, and apple strudel.

Ein Prosit!

FSB

Factoid: The city of Kitchener, because of WWI, opted to change it’s name from Berlin. Hence, the Oktoberfest/Thanksgiving celebrations.

These were crepes rolled up and filled with cottage cheese, egg, and dill.
Baked until golden in some kind of sauce.
And yes, it was a Ukrainian dish.

I'm not Ukrainian myself but there are so many Ukrainians around here this region is affectionately known as Yukon Alberta cuz there's a Uke on every corner.

Ziggy zaggy ziggy zaggy oi oi oi!
Have fun at October Fest.

Well, that’s an eye opener. All this time I thought the gang on our corners here in the ‘Peg were northenders. Now I find out they’re from Yukon Alberta. That explains all the great perogy huts. :P

In advance of tomorrow’s official holiday(s) I know many are celebrating today on this fine Sunday. Gathering with family and friends, perhaps for dinner or just to share good times. Those less fortunate will often be thankful for the volunteers and kindness of others, and turkeys will look at Thanksgiving differently.

I think we have our Thanksgiving on the second Monday of October and our American friends have Thanksgiving on the fourth Thursday of November to confuse turkeys so we can sneak up on ‘em. Can’t do that with a pumpkin though. They just play dead hoping they won’t end up with the same fate. :P
Columbus got his own holiday and Amerigo Vespucci must have foreseen this because he was ticked off and reputedly wrote letters (the first and fourth thought to be forged) ) to downplay Columbus’ discoveries. It must have worked, because all of the Americas are believed to have been named after Amerigo, and so was a beautiful square rigger tall ship that sails the seas today. I had the pleasure of seeing it enter Portsmouth Naval Base in England while our ship was tied alongside Lord Nelson’s built in 1794 famous Battle of Trafalgar HMS Victory with 104 guns.

The Amerigo Vespucci was the second of two ships built for training the Italian Navy. She was built in 1931; but, in 1925 the first was built and Columbus beat Amerigo to the finishing line once again. Her name? Cristoforo Colombo. Ah, but after WWII Cristoforo went to the Russians and in 1963 a fire destroyed her. Amerigo not only had questionable letters, with the ships he had the last word.

Whatever, whenever, wherever, and however you celebrate, enjoy the festivities and I wish you all to have a good one today and tomorrow.

It should be noted Columbus Day is celebrated in other countries other than the USA as well.

Note: Apologies for earlier Thanksgiving links from Wikipedia where cut and paste, etc. are not working. An anomaly. I’m trying to find a work around and will re-introduce the same ASAP.

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving to those that live there. By the way, is it the same type of holiday as we celebrate here, but you all do it in early October?

Nope.

Earlier I posted links with the differences. Try as I may something in the link dictates a non workable connection.

The brief history here will help to alleviate the problem and give you some background and comparison, Paul and Mike. Thanks, guys for the wishes.
