OK.........I know......This may cause Brad to have nightmares, after a hard day's work at Fender, day after day.

I really don't think this is possible, after years of using chat rooms on the internet, and all the problems they create......but I'll toss this out anyway.

Is it possible, not only to have this forum, but also have a live chat room, where members could talk to each other in real time?

Over the years I've used AOL chat rooms, listed under different topics, to talk to people live. That is........an actual room, where you see people type comments as they're actually typing them and entering them into the room. I've also seen other internet chat rooms, where you can talk to people live, rather than a message board.

In the rooms, I've used, I've seen a lot of destructive comments and conversations, and ultimately causing the downfall of the room (due to fighting, etc.). Because of this, I'm sure such a thought might be a nightmare for Fender. Also......if such negative behavior started, it would require monitors, which I would think Fender would shy away from (it's opening up a whole new can of worms).

Even though this is just a message board type set-up......I've seen troll-like behavior, and it's already caused a few headaches for Brad. This would definitely be amplified with a live chat room.

Anyway....it's just a thought, that I'm tossing out there for discussion.

(Brad, forgive me, for I know not what I do)

that would be pretty cool. although it could cause many problems. i know of a few guitar forums that have chat rooms.. but i have seen some bad conflict.

There are too many irresponsible people for something like that.

To much flame warfare goes on in many of them. Also I think older people tend to stay away from them, though I may be wrong on that. Just seems that way on some that I have been on.

Hey, I'm older than dirt! I dated Moses' sister.

But I know what you mean.....a lot of arguing and downright hate in some chat rooms. That's why I don't think we'll see it. But.....I thought I'd toss out the idea out there anyway.

Brad........forgive me........(he knows where I live)

Honestly, this is pushing being to "live" for me, chat rooms honestly scare me...
If there were to be a chat room, I'd stay away from it, and possibly even the forums... :?

You dated her to? What worries me are trolls just there to throw gas. I am middle aged and we have had flame trolls even get in on our Community web site and cause problems before being tossed to the big cats for lunch

I'm thinking the same thing. There will always be people trying to wreck it, or......just personality conflicts that turn ugly. For a live chat room, if that happens....it would require a monitor to sort things out and preserve the peace. That means manpower and additional headaches for Fender.

But......if it would work out.......it would be such a great thing to have. The chat rooms could be divided into catagories, similar to what Fender has now, in the forum.

Other chat rooms that I've participated in.......have had "report" buttons, and that seemed to work.

I'm surprised Brad hasn't responded to this yet, but I think it could work, shure there would be "trolls" but we'd survive

this should be another poll petition...

I have served as admin to forums, web sites, & chat rooms...
Including IrC & others...
In my opinion a live chat room is a bad idea.
Especially for all of us (the everyday user or even the new user).
In a live chat room the information we discuss is gone... bye bye
The information won't get indexed by google...
It won't be searchable & organized into relatable topics.

I think a live chat is a nightmare of an idea.

Not wild about this idea personally, for reasons that have already been identified at length in this thread ...
