Very sad I have to edit this again

Rock legend Tom Petty pulled off life support after going into cardiac arrest

But first reported, (I changed the subject line after I found out Tom was clinging to life)
Tom Petty, the rocker best known as the frontman of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, is dead at 66, CBS News has confirmed. This is where they got me the word confirmed

The legendary musician suffered a full cardiac arrest and was found unconscious and not breathing in his Malibu home Sunday night. He was taken to UCLA Santa Monica Hospital and put on life support,

Only two of the TW's left and Dylan's not looking too good lately.

R.I.P. Tom Petty

Dammit, one artist on my bucket list I'll never cross off now.

Good music and always seemed to be a pretty down to earth guy for a music star.

The Great Tom Petty Has Passed.
With broken heart, may he RIP.
I first saw Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers in The Stanley Theater in July, 1978.
I last saw Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers in The Wells Fargo Center on July 1, 2017.

RollingStone -- "Tom Petty, Rock Iconoclast Who Led the Heartbreakers, Dead at 66"

The Live Anthology encompasses 48 tracks from thirty years of live performances from 1978-2007.
This is the greatest live compilation ever put together by any band.

Wasn't expecting to hear about this! He was just on tour, too. RIP, Tom. :(

This breaks my heart, I saw Tom last May in Tampa.

It was the first time to see him live, and now the last.

I first became aware of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers when I was a senior in high school(1977). I have been a fan ever since. I was very excited when MTV first went on the air and they played a lot of his videos. While I am, and will be sad for a long time, I am happy that he did what he loved till the day he died.

And I am so glad that he didn't back down!

Rest in peace brother, and say hello to Roy and George for me!

:(

This is a tough one for me.
Lots of the old guys are passing away lately and I usually just pass right by all the RIP threads but Tom was very big influence on me.
Maybe my biggest.
I regret I never had the chance to see his show.
Like, live and in person, I mean.
I've got lots of video of him.

Just saw that he's clinging to life.
Maybe the press jumped the gun?

There seems to still be some confusion as to Tom’s condition. I hope he will be fine, but, even if he has pulled through,
problems can occur from lack of oxygen to the brain. My late mother in law had a cardiac arrest, was gone for an unbelievable 6 minutes, and survived without brain damage which I was told was remarkable with less than 1% chance of that happening!

Tom would not be the first performer to have a hoax created about him; but, time will tell. My sincere thoughts of a legend will follow him should TP be in a different place, however.

Local 5 o’clock news here says Tom is in a hospital. News is so on top of it these days.

Hey, mud. That’s an easy pit to fall into. We all fall in that direction when it’s slippery.
Not choosing sides, it was once criticized that the Donald got his information from the tv, newspapers, and magazines rather than from the experts. That’s kinda funny considering these guys were critiquing themselves. All too often the reporting comes from resources that amount to the National Enquirer, and such paparazzi loaded details. Cutbacks have created a large amount of sharing of information and that includes being first and reporting unsubstantiated material. The Internet can be a tool or make a fool. Polls and groups are only as good as the quality, relative collection, and geographical demographics of those asked (amongst other factors). Never mind who does the poll, the science can be and has been flawed.

I took journalism and there are/were rules. Some rules are meant to be bended or broken, but verification is a must for the big boys. Heresay may sell or get ratings, but it won’t hold up as great journalism or, perhaps, the truth.

Trump’s “fake” news doesn’t work for all his troubled coverage. It may be “fabricated” intentionally, it may not. It may be “poor journalism” without weight or verification. It may have “tunnel vision” which will lead to missing or not passing on the full story. Whatever the news coverage is or isn’t, two things are certain, in this day of wide coverage and content and opinion, news is “they say” and “unreliable”.

The story ain’t over till the big lady sings. 8)
Gosh, I miss the funny papers. :P

So far from what I could find at about 9:15 PM EDST, Tom is still with us.

And that in itself is great news. I only hope that the recovery will be manageable.

Get well soon, Tom.

Alas, recovery for Tom was not to be. CNN has just reported Tom Petty 66 has died as his long time manager has announced. :(
In 1961 Petty was introduced (with help from his Uncle and Aunt) to Presley on a movie set “Follow That Dream”. He was hooked on Elvis and, like the King, he was hooked on becoming a cool Rock and Roll artist. The rest is history.

Peace in Rock and Roll heaven, Tom. I hope the King is there to meet you at the Pearly Gates.

"She's a good girl, loves her mama
Loves Jesus and America too
She's a good girl, crazy 'bout Elvis
Loves horses and her boyfriend too

It's a long day livin' in Reseda
There's a freeway runnin' through the yard
And I'm a bad boy, 'cause I don't even miss her
I'm a bad boy for breakin' her heart

And I'm free, free fallin'
Yeah I'm free, free fallin'"

R.I.P. Tom Petty :(
