I admit that I am definitely a little late to the Allman Brothers party ... and now I regret it. The "live at the Fillmore" album is held in the highest esteem, so I figured that having that album and a modest greatest hits captured "all I need" for my musical library. I never got any of their other albums as I was not sure which albums have Duane, which albums have thier song clunkers, etc. So, now after downloading their first four studio albums, I am blown away ... and I know a little more about their history. Listening to these full albums as such has drastically changed my impression of the Allman Brothers. I always liked them, but I never realized how amazing and great they were -- and I definitely really regret not catching a Derek Trucks/Warren Haynes-era gig in the 2000's.

Their first albums in order (there is NOT one bad song anywhere, and they are well produced):
1) The Allman Brothers Band (self titled)
2) Idlewild South
3) Live At The Fillmore (this is the album that made them big)
4) Eat A Peach (this is a 2-record set with 6 studio tracks, and "bonus" live material from the Fillmore concerts in #3; Duane died during the recording, so he is on only 3 studio tracks. However, the other 3 studio tracks are amazing too. Personally, I think if you get one of the Fillmore releases that already includes this additional live material, you only need the studio tracks.).
5) Brothers and Sisters (the bassist Duane Oakley died during the recording, so only some songs feature him; again, every song is great)

When I listened to the Allman Brothers in the context of these five albums, I was blown away. The ridiculously strong and overwhelming guitar work throughout, along with super strong songwriting and record production take it to hallowed ground. I am stupid for not recognizing how truly amazing this music is earlier...

Went to see Lee Michaels in the 60s and they were the opening band. They tore the
place up and the rest is history.

I never really got into them. A great band though. I went to Mountain concert, and an unknown Charlie Daniels Band was the opening act. Ya' never know. And for a short time, the Monkees had an opening act, Jimi Hendrix.

Great band, saw them a few time at the Pacific Colosseum in Vancouver. I have all these albums and they are really great. I really like Eat A Peach and Brothers and Sisters. Great song writing on these albums, starting to develop their song writing and getting away from I, IV, V blues structure. "Melissa," plus Dickey Betts' "Blue Sky",
are a couple of my fav all time tracks

Also at the Pacific Colosseum I saw Vanilla Fudge, back up band was Led Zeppelin. lol

I liked them the first time I heard them starting with The Allman Brothers Band (self titled), though the first time I got to see them was at Watkins glen concert in 1973
I had a ticket but didn't use it, no one was collecting

The Allman Brothers, another great band from Florida.

Maybe they will let Tom Petty jam with them.

when I was 15/16, that's just about all I was listening to. (I was also a big Ritchie Blackmore fan, so it was either deep purple, or these guys on my turn table)

I had already been playing guitar for a few years, I latched on to those guys and stole every lick from Duane and Dicky I could. Major influence for me.

Greatness like that, is hard to replace.

I was at band rehearsal last night and the bass player suggested doing the ABB version of
Good Morning Little Schoolgirl. I said I'd never heard their version. He played it and it was the
newer ABB with Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks. It was a cool version but it made me think
of the offshoots of the original band and led to a cool discussion.

Duane Trucks (Derek's younger brother), plays drums for Widespread Panic and Hard Working Americans. Trucks' oldest son, guitarist Vaylor Trucks, is part of a trio called The Yeti Trio based in Atlanta, Georgia. He was also a nephew of Virgil Trucks, a Major League Baseball pitcher and coach.

Worst band I ever heard! They're terrible!

Just kidding. :P Actually, I'm glad to say I did get to see them in concert maybe a year or two before they broke up, which I was rather surprised that they did, but being with the health issues that Greg Allman had, maybe that was the reason. Great music to just jam out to, or chill. 8)

This is a great live DVD video.
Unfortunately, it does not appear to be available on CD.
