I use them until I wear them down or lose it.

You have the ability to use a pick for over a year and not lose it??????

My favorite is a kaleidoscope-colored heavy pick that I bought 20+ years ago -

Yes. I keep it on my desk where I can see it all the time.

Use it till it breaks or you lose it I always say. Although I believe there is a black hole for guitar picks in my house.

Chet I just bought the 'fab 4' & a nite-glo shredder!
I probably won't see them til next week but I can't wait to try them!
I have never even held one in my hand!
From what I see in the vid I am going to like them...
My guess is esp the Small Rounded (like the jazz pick kinda).

Once you try one, you will not want to go back to other picks.

Some where around my house I have several bags of other picks that were put away when I got my first V-Pick.

I ground a Planet Waves pick down and did not realize it was as bad as it was until I compared it with another one. I noticed at that time that i wasn't getting good contact with the strings and it also effected the tone.

'Got a bunch in a couple rooms and use them indiscriminately.

Some are surely decades old.

I received my V-picks yesterday.
I got the 'Fab four' & a nite glo Screamer.
Also, Vinni from v-picks included a couple extras for me to try.
My first impression is that I love these picks...
They really do feel more accurate.. esp certain v-picks.
The tone they produce is definately different...
The attack from the v-pick is not a 'clicking' sound like u get from normal picks.
This attack is more defined & more natural sounding than your average pick.
I plan on doing a post about this with Chet hopefully.
These picks deserve their own topic here.

Really? You don't care for the Fender Heavy pick... That's all I've ever been using and I love them. I've tried others and just found a comfort zone with the Fender picks.

We all have our preferences.

Yeah Barry I also favor the Fender Heavy picks myself, but the only downside to them is (and this goes for all picks for me) that with the speed that I play at they tend to "melt" away after about 10 to 15 hours of playing so I buy them by the gross. Even the Dunlop Jazz 3 picks end up getting the tip wore off of them in about the same amount of time. Oh well, I'll just buy stock in the pick companies  .

I'll use a pick until the edges start to get rough and grab the strings. I have no idea how long that takes. I've got some many picks laying around I never know when I first used one.

All my picks are the same gauge (2.0mm) except for one that is 3.0mm. Although I lose them and pick up different ones from time to time, but I'd say if they start to develop ridges, dents, etc. that its probably time to throw them out.
