The only downside I can think of is trying to do it to start with. I have so many picks setting around.

Really? You don't care for the Fender Heavy pick... That's all I've ever been using and I love them. I've tried others and just found a comfort zone with the Fender picks.

We all have our preferences.

I've had my faithful acoustic pick for three years now. The main one I use for electric I've been using for about a year.

I regroom my picks when they
get a little beat, up then chuck em.

The biggest downside that I can see is when you keep picking as hard as I do playing my Stevie Ray stuff over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over............................................................................ 8)

.........a laugh from someone, please....................... :P

Same for me. I also cut a crisscross pattern with a razor blade on both sides of my picks, so it won't turn between my fingers. More grip for free. When I started playing, I used to play many months with the same pick and the only problem I encountered was that when my pick was really worned out I had a big adaptation to make by switching to a new one. So now I don't wait as long as before. I also do a rotation with two or three picks so I always have fairly equally used picks. Finally I play with the big round edge of the pick, so I have two for the price of one. (but of course I don't do it to bring down my pick budget, but because I like to play that way).
By the way I use Big Stubby 3 mm when I play my accoustic. (with the small end).

Keep on picking.

Cheers.

i usually use more of a fender pick that is like a "black ice" color and i love those, but i bought plain white and they keep on chipping. but more recently i've been usuing dunlop match picks (they come in a pack like matches would so you can carry it in your pocket) and right know i really like nylon picks.
