+1 for me too

I am a big fan of John Mayer but the anti-JM people can not be convinced otherwise. I think the only way he will ever get their respect is if he finds a way to bring SRV back from the dead and have him say he is great. He has played with the best living legends that are out right now and is respected by them. He has performed with Double Trouble. He even inspired SRV's Guitar tech to come out of retirement to go on the road with him because in his words he is the closest to SRV he has ever heard or seen. If thats over rated I dont know whats good.

+1 again.
I don't know about his earliest stuff, but his "Try" cd with the trio had some very amazing guitar work. Listen to it and tell me it isn't complicated, difficult stuff. If to you it isn't, then you must be a pretty good guitarist.

Oh, and jimi hendrix was/is the best guitarist to date. Just watch his woodstock videos.

Definitely Stairway... A lot of Jimi Hendrix stuff too. Great guitarist, but some of his stuff is really simple compared to the level of difficulty people make it out to be.

Listen to Voodoo child and say that again. And even if some of his stuff is simple its how he played it, and the style and vibe he had when he played those songs. Thats what makes him so great.

I just said some of his stuff. Voodoo is a great song. Some other songs are extremely simple though.

I think the beatles are overrated.
sure they were good for the time but a lot of their music doesnt stand up today and sounds very dated.
from the mid-sixties on bands like the who, kinks, stones, were much better and the music has not dated as much, in my opinion.

go to youtube and search for zakk, he's an under rated guitar player if anything.

I agree, Black Label Society deserves much more atention than they get.

Metallica is also overrated in my opinion.

I think Metallica is getting to the point that complicated writing distract them from writing good songs. I think - this is personal now - they got complicated after Kill 'em All, and got too complicated for ...And Justice for All, then mellowed a bit on the Black album, after that it was just down hill. I don't like their new stuff, but the vintage up to Justice is not short of amazing. They've definitely has followed their own addage, we do what we like, so gotta respect that.

(Off topic) I did not mean to sidetrack this thread into a John Mayer pro/ con thread.

Ya I don't think anyone said they did not like him but just that he is not the guitar God that many think he is. I was always like that about Fleetwood Mac ,they were good but I just could only stand so much of there music.

Don't get me wrong, they were fantastic musicians, especially JPJ. IMO their musical career as a whole has never been sufficent enough to merit the amount of accolaides and praise they receive constantly from media sources and music fans. The titles like "The best rock band ever" and "The gods of rock n' roll" are not deserved. But hey, that is only my opinion.

Stairway to Heaven is a bit too overrated. Every other kid at my school plays about the first 10 seconds into the intro of it and just thinks he's Eric Clapton or something.

That and everything by Dragonforce is overrated. They modify their tracks at the studio, they don't sound so great to me.
