Doesn't matter what genre it is.

Stairway to Heaven - Good song, i just do not see why it is so well known and great.

Definitely Stairway... A lot of Jimi Hendrix stuff too. Great guitarist, but some of his stuff is really simple compared to the level of difficulty people make it out to be.

Most anything on popular radio is overrated to me when compared to the thoughts of the general public, I would imagine.

I think nirvana is extremely overrated as well. They make simple, catchy songs, but everyone gives Cobain credit like he was a guitar and vocal God, when both aspects seem rather mediocre to me.

I much preferred him before he went all 'bearded biker,' like "Pride & Glory." What an album! Three great musicians.

go to youtube and search for zakk, he's an under rated guitar player if anything. As far as Hendrix, noone played like him before, nor has anyone play like him now, he changed the way people play guitar, hence his Guitar God status. It's not how great they are now, it's how they changed the landscape is why they (anyone, Eddie, SRV, Zakk, etc) got the Guitar God status. Check out live Hendrix stuff, I wouldn't want to be in a band with him playing live, always improvising, always have to catch what he's going to do or might do...LOL Makes it that much harder playing live and sounding good.

I used to think John Mayer is just some hippish dude with some soft rock attitude to play guitar in college to get chicks - still might be true, but he's a pretty decent if not good guitar player. Not into his music at all tho.

It's obviously a lot of personal preference, but John Mayer's pop radio stuff not that great, this blues trio stuff I really like.

granted, the more I learn about the guitar, the more guitarists i see in a different light.

Listen to Voodoo child and say that again. And even if some of his stuff is simple its how he played it, and the style and vibe he had when he played those songs. Thats what makes him so great.
