Fats Domino records "I'm Walkin'", a song he wrote after his car broke down and a fan shouted "Hey, look at Fats Domino, he's walking!". The record won't be released for over a year, but would go on to reach #4 on the US Pop chart and #1 on the R&B chart in April of 1958.

The Teddy Bears appear on NBC's Kraft Music Hall where they perform their recent Billboard #1 hit, "To Know Him Is To Love Him". Annette Kleinbard would go on to a successful songwriting career, Marshall Leib would become a musical supervisor in the film industry, and Phil Spector would launch his legendary career as a music producer.

A song called "Leader of the Laudromat" by The Detergents peaks at #19 on the Billboard Pop chart during its seven week run. The record was a spoof of The Shangri-Las' "Leader Of The Pack" and the group was actually Ron Dante, Danny Jordan and Tommy Wynn, a trio of young songwriters and session singers who worked for Aldon Music. The writers of "Leader Of The Pack", Jeff Barry, Ellie Greenwich and George "Shadow" Morton, would file a copyright lawsuit, which was settled out of court.

Great post, mud.

Shortly after the Parr show, a neighbourhood 12 year old that went to school with me was sent home from school because of his mop top. The school, in a Canadian city known to be a tourist area that was like little England because of it’s large British heritage, told the parents their child did not meet the dress code.

My parents and I went to bat for the kid and his parents because we never knew him without the haircut later to be known as the Beatle haircut which became a trend amongst fans. Who knows? Maybe the Beatles got their haircut from this kid who had moved to Canada from England before the Fab Four were fab..He got reinstated, but the other kids were denied that hairstyle privilege. :D
I wasn’t a Beatles fan either. The Animals, Manfred Mann, and other British Invasion groups were welcomed. Motown, The Ventures and Surf groups, Orbison, Johnny Rivers, the Kinks, the Kingsman. and more from ‘64’s top 100’ filled my plate. Two years later in ‘66 some dude called Hendrix played just a short boat ride from my home.

Nope! No time for “She Loves You. Ya ya ya”. No “Waiting for a Ya Ya” with me. Later when the commotion settled they could “Come On Down To My Boat”. Today I am a fan, but only after a grueling bout of ‘She Loves You’ from a high school guitarist/chum of mine who looked and played the part back then.
FSB

I was hypocritical though because I, like hundreds of others, eventually had a red half belted Beatles jacket to go with the skinny tie and Cuban heeled pointed shoes. That was replaced with turtle necks, a chain necklace before rap, and a Nehru camelhair jacket to go with my rose coloured shades. I still hated “She Loves You”.8)

Great story thanks for posting. I remember that Jack Parr piece. For me the Beatles swept me up right away as I was just becoming a teenager, my older brothers though had a much different view than me, when the Beatles first came out, they did not like them too much, they were 2 and 4 years older, but eventually they came to like the fab four
