Greis 5W Fender Champ clone. Was great, no problem. Mic'ed through the PA.

I also have a 1982 Rivera-Era Fender Super Champ, which is 18 watts tube, and has a 150 watt EV Force 10 speaker (it came stock with the amp from the factory,) which is actually pretty loud. I mean, I've never played it with any acoustic drums, or gigged with it, but I'm pretty confident it could hold it's own. I've never even cranked it into overdrive and it's quite loud, although it's in a small room. I really would like to avoid gigging with it when I have to play guitar, since it's in pristine condition, and I've seen example of this amp go for almost $1000 in lesser condition, so the less wear and tear the better. Not that I'd ever want to sell it to begin with. It's a great amp.

For my band's last out of state shows, we couldn't bring all our huge stuff, so we had to borrow gear. At one show I had to run through a 212 Hotrod Deluxe (Deville?), while the other guitarist was in a 112 Randall.

I'm used to a 135w Dual Showman going into a Sunn 215, it just ain't the same if the paint isn't curling off the walls

In 1969, it was a Kent Combo Amp, 2X12. I don't remember the watts of it, but it wasn't much. I could've used more power playing with a loud lead player, and a loud drummer.

Then there’s the drummer that gets, “Keep it down!” or the drummer that is about to lose his hearing sitting next to a High Watt like I did only to wake up to blood on the pillow before going to a hearing specialist. Then again, there’s Thumpin’ Thor on the traps asking for more guitar volume so he doesn’t have to be hidden behind the plexiglas. Me, I like it somewhere in the middle with both guitars and drums. Today we can use in-ear monitoring. Fender can help. 8) I know, what’s the danger and fun in that?

Stay safe

For the uninitiated it may be of interest to know it isn’t only volume that can damage your hearing (Example: I once recovered from temporary hearing loss from large gunfire, although, I was lucky).

One of the most damaging sounds is a constant drone of audio over an extended period. It doesn’t have to be volume related, although volume can be a factor. A break or change is helpful. Use it in your room or on stage. Now ya know.
