Great update, Doc and thanks for passing it on Mike.

The path of Dorian and it’s related data from both U.S. and European interests have merged closer together as to where the hurricane is predicted to arrive and where it is initially set to travel along the coast. The two predicted paths still vary a little as Dorian travels north in Florida. Whether it will take a left turn and head for the west coast of Florida is still uncertain. U.S. predictions are that it will. Then again, it’s the weather and a prediction at best. Not to say the European satellite is better (it may not be); but, it is newer. If anything, the two opposing satellites working in tandem are sure to help improve the technology in the long run.

My early prediction is Sebastion inlet...hurricane force winds are only 30 miles currently. The next 24hrs are over slightly deeper and warmer waters. Growth is harder to predict than intensity&directional speed.

We used to say smoke em if ya got em, they might be wet later.
Or in your case, better to hang em' and not need em' then need em' and not be able to hang em'
Save the last couple so ya still have that great view!

I'm down in south Palm Beach County, south of Port St. Lucy. If it hits up around Vero Beach, or north of it, I'd be doing pretty good.
Every storm is unique. No two are alike, This one doesn’t appear to be too friendly. I hope you won’t get hammered, Glenn, and that your smooth sailing will get back to you and yours sooner than later. Stock up on Jello my friend.

Gas for the generator, won out over the Jello for now.

Definitely the right decision. There will always be Jello waiting for you.

Amongst all the precautions, I read that Star Wars celebrations at Disney World and events at Universal are business as usual with updates accordingly, especially with an overflow of tourists (some quick to leave and others oblivious). The Stones concert is shifted to tonight cancelling tomorrow’s event so Mick and the boys can get out of Miami, and 8000 employees are hunkering down with NASA at Kennedy Space Center. Alongside is Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, and SpaceX. All are preparing for Dorian.

I can only imagine the logistics of people from all corners of Florida coming and going. I heard the gas is in short supply even with extra fuel delivered from in and out of state.

Sending you my wish for Marie Levaux to do her curse from the grave on that nasty hurricane.

Take care,
FSB

Make sure you have enough ammo, too. You never know when things go to crap, if the power goes, and all of that, people will use that for their advantage and take what they want by whatever means necessary. Not to be negative, but you see that crap happen all of the time, and the cops aren't going to be there when you need them.

This really complicates my life. My mom is in a hospital in SW FL. She is scheduled for surgery next Wednesday, and I need to fly down there to be with her.

I hope her surgery turns out ok.

I feel for you and your mom. I know what it is like, since my mother just came out of the hospital where she is a constant resident off and on at the age of 96 and 1500 miles away. I’m her only immediate relative. It’s difficult to keep flying back and forth to stay in hotels and whatnot, and hard to know when things are a priority and when they are not or if it’s best to reconsider for another time.

It’s no picnic to be in the hospital, even more so with surgery. Your situation with the hurricane is not much better; but, with your mom being in the hospital, my guess is that it is a good safe place to be under the circumstances, and yet it could get terribly busy. If contact is of concern, even from a distance most nurses stations will help in that matter. Grab some relief knowing that your mom is in good care with professionals at a difficult time, and that helps everyone concerned. The flights will be another thing to contend with. It seems that there’s never a good time to stay, but there can be good times to go. There will in many cases be other times to choose. Most of all, keep safe should you find yourself there. I wish you both the best.

Thank you, my friends, I appreciate your thoughts and well-wishes.

I was able to book a flight for Tuesday, so we will see how it goes. Also, Dorian's projected path seems to have creeped eastward since last night, so hopefully this will work out okay.

I echo what Glenn and Gary said. Stay safe and I'm sending good vibes for your mom.

In my little part of the world, we are out of the NHC's warnings forecast cone. That could change, but it seems highly unlikely that will happen. The trend of the storm's movement, is more to the east away from the southeast coast of Florida. I'm hoping this predicted trend continues for our area, and the rest of the eastern seaboard. The Bermuda high has weakened, allowing the storm to turn from the coast, and track more to the north. That was at least the situation at the 11:00 AM EST advisory.

You are right about the hurricane’s move to the east along the Florida coastline. Looks like a lot of rain will be throughout Florida, and that’s a concern. Have a good flight, and a safe stay with your mom.

A few hours ago:

Let’s hope Dorian moves a little faster and a lot further to the east on the Atlantic. That’s great news and sounds promising, Glenn.

Keep the faith.

Great news, Glenn. Let's keep pushin' it. :)

I'd like to see it turn into the Atlantic and just be a fish storm as they call them.

+1
Fish storm, huh? I had to look it up. Thanks, for the new term for me.

Thought to have begun on messaging boards shortly after 2000, it’s not official, and it’s, briefly, considered to be a tropical storm (including hurricanes) cool to look at from a distance, but non destructive staying away from land, and making a curve out to open sea giving it the appearance of a fish.

Good one, Glenn.
