I'm not a guitarist, so keep that in mind. I do know certain Strats do make good distorted sound, prolly due to having a humbucker on it by the bridge. I know Dave Murray (Iron Maiden) had a sig model, his own guitar comes with DM Hot Rails (IIRC) and gives a good sound for rythm and his lead solos. I don't know, maybe some rocker guitarist can chime in.

well what I did, and I play mostly Metallica sounding music, is switched my guitar's pickups, they were some Duncan Designed humbuckers, and they were O.K. I switched them out for the Hot Rodded Humbucker Set, and WOW!! I can get any sound I will ever want, bottom line is, these pickups made all the difference...

it's got non active pickups wich imo doesn't make it a true zakk wylde. i would recomend any schecter guitar's especially the schecter c-1 plus. coil tap and sounds great distorted

http://www.schecterguitars.com/index.asp

they're about $600 new but i got lucky and got a new one on ebay.

81/85 are active, Gibson just chose not to set it up as active (9v powered) IIRC :

I wonder if you can hook up the actives?

Play as many guitars as you can through time...
