I got out even before they issued the order for Broward Cty. to evacuate. You don't want to ride out a Cat 4 or 5 storm. It is a life-changing (ending?) experience.

I'm staying with my brother up north. We turned on the Weather Channel and they were doing live reports from the beach across the street from where I live. Not a good sign.

For all Forumites and Forumettes in harm's way, please stay safe.

Thanks, to all the providers and producers who have added their expertise and/or opinions in the making of this hurricane topic. This is not an endorsement and the opinions and comments/advice belong to the presenter.

There will be a lot of things to consider and do after the storm. Safety first and of course cleanup amongst other things. Lots of information is available. I'll try to keep it brief and add some information, although it, like the other information is not complete and should not be taken for the be all and end all. All of these comments and videos can be supplemented by your own research of course, and this just gives you some things to consider. Please, use the information in this thread as tips and suggestions to apply at your own risk.

After the Storms

Medical concerns

I found these pretty informative and helpful:

A Volunteer's view and cleanup

Really Good Flood Damage Cleanup Tips

Flooded basement, water tank, furnace/air cleanup
and more

Flood damaged cars

I hope this sheds some light on the possibilities to expect.
