After hurricane Harvey left innocent persons dead and many others homeless in Texas & Louisiana, another major storm is expecting to slam New York City next week. I'm afraid Eric Clapton will be forced to cancel his US dates due to the upcoming Irma outbreak threatening the East Coast.

It's still up in the air for where this damn thing is going. I'm going to make a decision late Wed., early Thurs. weather to put up all my panels, or just select panels. By the time it gets closer to south florida, it should be down to about 140-145 mph. I hate those damn things.ImageImage

It looks like Florida is going to get hit pretty good, from it's directed path.

They just released the 11:00 PM EDT advisory. The Projected Path is still not set, and may not be set for a couple more days. Who knows.

That Irma looks ugly. In '67 I sailed that area, and I'm glad it was then and not now. For those in the hurricane's path, hunker down and stay safe, it looks to be a rough ride.

I heard that this is one of the most powerful hurricanes recorded. Something like 185 MPH winds. We're going to go ahead and prepare, just in case it decides to go up the east coast. We've had one hit here a few years ago, albeit nothing like this.

It's the most powerful one in the Atlantic. But not quite the most powerful ever. Image

I keep hearing it said this is the most powerful hurricane ever recorded, well check out this link

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/pdf/TCR-1969Camille.pdf

This is a NOAA report on hurricane Camille, a hurricane that hit the gulf coast in 1969. The first paragraph of the report states that it had winds of 190 miles an hour, and a 30 foot storm surge.

I know the people on the news keep saying this is the worst storm ever, but I am skeptical. Big headlines sells news.

Don't get me wrong, this is a BAD storm.

I live in Tampa, I'm not looking forward to this weekend. What ever happens, I will recover. It looks like Miami Mike and ZZDoc will get it much worse than myself.

Prayers for Miami Mike, ZZDoc and everyone else in the storms path.

I'm in S.E. Palm Beach County, and there's still such a margin of error in the cone at this time. The 8:00 PM EDT advisory, showed it on the coast in my area at 2:00 PM Sunday. Who knows.

Thanks, things seem to be scaled down a bit for impact in my area. It won't be a picnic, but it's looking like sustained winds at, or about 140-145. Maybe 2:00 PM EDT Sunday. At the 2:00 PM EDT advisory today, the central minimum pressure is up to 922 MB. Better than 914 MB. There is still a margin of error in the cone for this area.

There's a couple more hurricanes coming up besides Irma. We'll have to see what those wind up doing, but hopefully they won't follow this one.

Yeah, let's hope so, Paul. Those demons like company. Maybe they'll visit elsewhere, hopefully out to sea, or just go away.

I saw the earthquake video in Mexico, Mike. Tragic.

That article you posted was a good one. I tend to agree that climate change is a tough call to attach it to the storm sizes. Today's larger storms inland come with decades old large hurricanes previously. There are those at sea, and those undocumented here and elsewhere.

Global warming can't be ruled out, but there's so much not known or not included in comparison. Is the glass half full or half empty? Even three and four generations (Grandpa, Dad, son, greatgrandchild) is such a short period of time for consideration when comparisons are given. A couple of hundred years of documentation (which it isn't) is relatively small in tens of thousands of years. Today's documentation is pretty compressed, and not all reliable or thorough, in a relatively small period of time.

We have enough trouble predicting the present weather yet alone yesterday's effects, although we are getting better. Here it's always 30% chance of rain, or sunny with clouds or cloudy with sun on pretty much a daily basis.

No doubt global warming can be, argumentively proven or disproven, but the effects over extended time are another matter. How many level 5 hurricanes have there been throughout time? No one knows. Are there more or less hurricanes than history would present? No one knows. We only have a tiny snapshot. Even the ancient mariners as recent as Magellan and Columbus couldn't tell you.

We are pretty good at finding the weather of the day, however, and that includes tomorrow's if it fits in a 24 hour window. Even that isn't a sure thing. :P
