I use a bar stool, wooden, kinda like the ones u see @ the music stores by the guitar/bass section. It's not the 26" tho like the ones in the store, it's the 30". I got it for free when I was looking for a stool, I helped a good friend of mine move to his new house, his fiance said I could have it for free :D So I took it. They sell these thing for under $24 @ big lots, Target(a little more), and home depot. Ck it out. It's hard surface tho, I know ur looking for padded.

Believe me.......I'm looking at all the options that people in here have given me. I'll weigh the price, and comfort, as well as quality built. All these ideas have been a great help for me. Some ideas, that I didn't think about.

P.S. Has anyone noticed that the forum is VERY slow this weekend? Every time I click on anything, I have a long wait.

I was using an office chair but the arms were a obstacle issue. I went to Target because I saw a footstool (mini barstool) for 12 dollars. Once I got there I saw a number of alternatives for various prices. I ended up getting a small cylindrical ottoman that has a removable lid for storage. It was 20 bucks. The reason I chose it was that when I watch tv from my office chair I can put my feet up on it because it is cushioned. I also use a small foot rest thing to raise my foot about 8 to 10 inches while I practice. I could've used an old phone book and saved 20 on that. Definately look at multipurpoes potential.

I wonder if you bought the same footstool. I bought one from Target a couple of years ago, with a removable top. By any chance......when you take the top off, is the a big mirror under the top? We might be footstool brothers.

Ok......I'm headed off for Guitar Center in a bit for some strings. I'll check out the drummer's thrones, and any other alternatives they might have.

Yeah, I just got back from Guitar Center. Spent about a half hour looking at drum thrones. Definately some possibilities there. I found several that felt very comfortable with my boney butt. Now I'll just have to let everything simmer in my brain and think about it. One good things about those.....they're meant to be broken down to travel with the drum set, so I could pack it very easily.

Ya I tried out several saddles before I bought mine. The height adjustment was important to me being 6'4"

I'm 5'8" so I was thinking of that. Some of the guitar stools I've seen, are either set at 24" or 29". With the Drum throne, it's completely adjustable to any height. And a lot of different butt cushions, so that I can find one tht is the soulmate to my boney butt.

I use this same stool in my guitar room. I started out with the 30" stool, but it is almost too tall, recently picked up a 24". Looks good and nice to sit and practice.

So.......if you've have some any special chairs or other such things, you use, while playing guitar......pass some ideas over to me.

How about an ottoman? Nice padding to keep your butt from getting sore, and can be cheap. I got a chair/ottoman combo at an auction for $2.

Syeklops, I never thought of taking the stool with me, so you're right, drum throne should be the one :D

I just want to thank everyone who responded to this tread to give me some ideas on what to use as a guitar stool. In fact, the idea of using a drummer's throne, never occurred to me, until it was suggested to me in this thread.

From there, I decided to check out this idea at Guitar Center, and checked out a number of drummer's thrones. I found one there that fits my boney butt perfectly, felt very comfortable, and is full adjustable for height. It's also a lot sturdier than the original stool I was looking at.

Anway......thanks once again for the tips. I would've never found what I'm getting without it. This is what I decided on getting.

Now this tread can end and move onto "Thread Heaven".

My Tama throne has the same base as that only difference I went with the round seat. You will find they are very well made and hold up well. Good choice!

When I first started playing guitar I'd play sitting, usually an office style chair without arms, but the last few months I've been playing more and more standing up. When I play sitting I quite often sit on the floor infront of my amp (lovely feeling), or comfy on a couch. The only problem with couches is its not great for your posture while playing!
