Hello everyone,

As you may (or may not) know, my hometown of Houston has been ravaged this week by Hurricane Harvey.

I've been stranded by floodwaters since last Saturday, but I consider myself very fortunate. I'm alive, I have plenty of food and water, I have electricity and my car and guitars remained high and dry.

However, not all were so lucky - including my parents and brother. Their home was flooded, and my Dad lost his car. Like so many in Houston, they did not have flood insurance as this has never happened on this scale before. I'm really just thankful that no one in my family was hurt. Things can be replaced.

My brother, who is a visual artist with Asperger's syndrome, was affected profoundly by the storm and has been displaced by the flood. As hard a time this is for all of us, it's an event that can be particularly difficult for those with special needs.

If you have a moment and some spare change, please visit this gofundme page which has been set up to help my brother recover. Every little bit helps, even if it's just a share!

From the bottom of my heart, thank you! ❤️

Great post ZZ. I don't have a FB account to gather the info but it would be great if someone could post a PayPal account also for those that would donate through that medium.
Most of my family members(18) reside in Houston as well and I wish everyone involved a speedy recovery.
My brothers home was only one of many inundated w/ water in the Spring area. He wasn't insured but will survive the losses eventually. I live in Corpus Christi and feel very fortunate to have been south/west of the landfall. I evacuated my home at midnight Thursday after realizing the strengthening of the storm and tracking it for several days that it would possibly make landfall w/in 25miles of me.
I'm not the young guy I used to be or I would be putting hands on tools and supporting recovery operations near my home. I've donated what I can spare and have a little left for my brothers home.

Here is a view of the hurricane making landfall at about 11pm last Friday, notice the lights below the clouds mid-way through. Give it a bit to load:

Impressive video. Thanks for sharing. Major mojo goes out to you and yours in recovery. We dodged a bullet from that Cat 4 here in SoFla last October. Every season it's the same rodeo waiting and watching. I follow two websites which give me previews of the eastern Atlantic before the media takes any interest in it. They have not made mention of the fact that the Pacific, just off Mexico has seen a lot of action in the past two months. So now we wait on 'our friend Irma'. As to Rebecca, the link I posted will take interested parties directly to the site where they can make a contribution if they so desire. Pax vobiscum. 8)

Doc

Thank you for posting this, Arnold! I'm only just now allowing myself to relax a bit, even though we weren't flooded where I live in Richmond, it came incredibly close. I'm still stranded though, and I'm going a little bit stir crazy because I want to get out and help my family and friends.

As far as my brother goes, he sounds like he's also just now starting to feel better too. He's temporarily staying with a family friend who wasn't flooded, but of course he's going to have to relocate somewhere slightly more permanent soon.

sfceric64 - Please let me know if your family in Houston needs anything. I have an SUV and I'd be happy to help them with transportation if they're in a jam. It'll have to wait a couple of days though, there's still about 8' of water between me and freedom!

You're quite welcome. I put it on my FB page as well and messaged Brad to see if he might have additional input. I fly through Houston when I travel to Puerto Vallarta. Having seen it from the air, I can appreciate how all that water had no where to go. Here's hoping recovery goes well for you all. As I noted in my earlier comments, this seasonal rodeo has us all watching the skies now. Hoping for the best from the next weather maker currently moving west. Time for me to check on that. More later. Stay safe.

Really bad news, another major storm reaching category 5 had just hit Florida with 180 mPH winds.

Sources claim Hurricane Irma is expected to slam New York and New Jersey next week.
