I just got a 1962 Duo Sonic which is a bit smaller/narrower than the ones from a few years later that were based on the Mustang. It supposedly came in the original case but it definitely slides around a little in there and does not feel safe.

If nothing else, I'll jut put some towels in there, but I was hoping to find a case that really fits to take on tour in a car or van. Are there any custom case places where you cut out the shape of the foam yourself? I haven't found any pre-cut ones smaller than a Mustang. I really want a relatively light-weight hard case but would also do an extra protective gig bag. Or does anyone else do towels in a case that's too big?

Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Buy some foam or poly material the width x length and cut it yourself. Just trace
the shape on it before cutting. Good luck!

My first guitar was a '62 red Duo Sonic (it was and still is owned by my uncle). It had the original case, and it is big for the guitar. I used to think that the case was not original, but it was. I am supposed to get that guitar back when my uncle leaves this world. We will see whether that really happens though ...

'62 (2nd version) should have the 22.5" scale length.
Duo Sonics through the years:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fender_Duo-Sonic

"Jimi Hendrix – played a Duo-Sonic when he backed up The Isley Brothers in the early 1960s and was known as Jimmy James, also in the studio in the mid-1960s, and while gigging with Curtis Knight & the Squires (New York, late 1965)."
