So I got a 2011 60th anniversary cabronita Tele.. and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.
I also have a squire cabronita, which is also in its own category, and would never part with it. However, my dilemma is this..
I love the squire the way it is cos of the fidelitrons doin they're thing,
And I love the fender cab, cos it has the tv jones pups.. and is perfect the way it is..
I also like the idea of the s-1 switching on the especial (custom shop cabronita).
So I have the two guitars, and an s-1 switch I ordered online.. I really want to install the switch on the fender. I wont be touching the squire, cos it's cool the way it is.. so is the fender, but potentially could be better with the switch installed. Now being a legit limited edition Tele, I am hesitant in doing so.. any opinions would greatly help my unease.. thanks fellow fenderians.. :)

Well, this isn't actually a Tele-technical question, it's more universally philosophical as in 'should I mod my Special Edition series instrument'.

The obvious answer is no, if you want to keep it original.
And the other option is yes, go ahead - it's your guitar.

Hope that eases the unease...

I tend to agree with jmattis for the most part. I have an S-1 in my Strat and use it at times, but not as much as without. It's nice to have those options though. Strat options do not relate to the Tele, however.

Have you tried the S-1 with a similar Squire or Fender, or have you heard it? Have you heard it with the gear you intend to use, or is it a roll of the dice with a perceived mod? Sure I got the S-1 without pairing it with my gear; but, it was not the reason I bought the Strat. and I didn't hotrod it.

I think that I would mod the lesser priced Squire before the Fender; but, that would mean swapping the pups if you want to retain your present pups. They'll have some characteristics, but not the same when swapped.

*The problem is, I don't believe they are interchangeable (because of the routering and pups size) as a straight drop in
. If so, you could then drop the S-1 with the TV Jones in the Squire, and the Fidelitrons in the Fender. You could then have it all without messing up the Fender and you could still return the Fender back to it's original state, and the Squire to it's except for the S-1 mod.

Aside from that, you could still mod the Squire as is (and it may be of interest and may not be), and keep the Fender as is, or mod the Fender as first desired.

Lots of choices except to say you have to decide whether it's a player with a need to add an S-1 or an original guitar that has a chance of holding or gaining some value which is difficult to say.

Cabronitas are not everybody's cup of tea, and a Fender Cabronita modded with an S-1 is also not your everyday axe. Who knows? Maybe that can work in your favour. Maybe not.

Definitely a cool mod, however, in the right hands. Even in the custom car world purists will turn their back on hotrodding an original at times. Then again, there are those with no holds barred. 8)

*Note: TV Jones are smaller than the Gretsch Filtertrons.
