Very snazzy, Mark.
I especially like the spiffy case and the cool control knobs.
Congrats!

OK.

NOW it happened.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Flying V, too. If I'm not mistaken, I think they might have done a Hendrix Flying V model at one time or another. Of course, there's the infamous Gibson Hendrix Strat copy everyone was having a fit over. :P You know, they apparently made very few if any of those, it would have been worth getting one when you could have because they'll probably be worth a lot of money someday because of the rarity of them and all of that crap. That seems to work out that way with stuff like that.

That's very interesting, Paul and news to me. I don't know how Gibson could get away with it. I think Fender would have every right to sue them.

I think the Hendrix Estate was behind the whole thing with marketing everything with Jimi Hendrix name on it at the time. You'd think they'd approach Fender about it, at least with Squier, if they wanted to do some budget line, which I think that was suppose to be. I guess Gibson offered a deal to them at first, or a better one. Who knows? I just remember reading people having a fit over the whole thing and it didn't really go anywhere. Maybe there's still info about the whole thing online somewhere still.

I was having a conversation just today with the local guitar tech here in my little town.
We were talking about SGs and I commented that they have this wonderful slim joint between the neck and body that allows great access to the upper frets but they ruin it by placing the strap button right in the middle of it and now here you're buying what might just be the only SG I ever saw with the button on the upper horn, where God intended.

With the position further away from the center of the SG, that cuts down no the famous Neck Dive of Death on them also.
Gibson SG Std. guitars, and EB/SG style basses, have a greater neck/head breakage when in their own hard shell case when falling over, or any other severe impact to the case. The guitar profile shape of the case didn't absorb the shock evenly enough. It actually caused more energy to be expelled, and applied to the neck/head area on an impact. A Roadies experience from on the road in the past.

Nice.

Post pix, Mark.

I totally agree, Matt. Now the strap button is "where God intended" and it feels so much better and more natural on the horn. My SG will never replace my Strat but it's the most Strat-like Gibson out there and the '57 Classic humbuckers are awesome.
Thanks Glenn. The new aluminum case is built like a tank and supports the neck all the way down to the head stock so, hopefully, I will never experience the "Neck Dive of Death". The shipping weight was around 23lbs and the guitar weighs 7.3lbs so that would put the case at something like 13lbs. It's definitely well built.
