Last Thursday I received my new 2017 Gibson SG Standard HP heritage cherry from Sweetwater. The guitar and case are perfect. There are no dents, scraps, scratches or manufacturing defects of any kind. Sweewater set it up beautifully. All I had to do was tune it and, with GForce, I simply pushed one button and strummed once. I had to laugh as the tuner knobs turned by themselves. To my ears, it sounded perfect but I checked it with my Korg tuner plugged into the output jack and it was spot on. This guitar is a pleasure to play and I haven't been able to put it down. :D
I know. No pictures and it didn't happen. I took pictures using my phone and they did not come out good but I'll try again tomorrow in the daylight. I have the pictures Sweewater emailed me after they shipped my guitar so I may have to use those.

Thanks Paul! I'm really enjoying it. :D
These are the pics of it that Sweetwater sent to me after they shipped it. The pictures I've taken don't do it justice.

Pretty cool. 8) I've never played on an SG guitar, sans the fact I'm mainly a bassist. I've never played with or was friends with guitarists who actually had one, oddly enough. I have played on a 1968 EB series bass, which is that SG shape, though. It was in some shop many moons ago. I can't remember if it was an EB-0, or an EB-3, like Jack Bruce had.

Congrats!!! I missed your post until now. Your SG Std. is a real traditional Rock Icon guitar. And in Heritage Cherry, that seals the deal! In the late 60's, I backed up on bass, a good number of lead players that played SG Std.'s. Jimi Hendrix did a good number of his songs with a Gibson SG. You're in good company my friend. A great power 6 stringer!Image

Thanks Glenn! I'm lovin' this guitar.
I didn't know Jimi Hendrix played an SG. That's cool.

Along with his Strat's, a Gibson SG was there.

Flying V, too. If I'm not mistaken, I think they might have done a Hendrix Flying V model at one time or another. Of course, there's the infamous Gibson Hendrix Strat copy everyone was having a fit over. :P You know, they apparently made very few if any of those, it would have been worth getting one when you could have because they'll probably be worth a lot of money someday because of the rarity of them and all of that crap. That seems to work out that way with stuff like that.

I was having a conversation just today with the local guitar tech here in my little town.
We were talking about SGs and I commented that they have this wonderful slim joint between the neck and body that allows great access to the upper frets but they ruin it by placing the strap button right in the middle of it and now here you're buying what might just be the only SG I ever saw with the button on the upper horn, where God intended.

Nice.

Post pix, Mark.

With the position further away from the center of the SG, that cuts down no the famous Neck Dive of Death on them also.
Gibson SG Std. guitars, and EB/SG style basses, have a greater neck/head breakage when in their own hard shell case when falling over, or any other severe impact to the case. The guitar profile shape of the case didn't absorb the shock evenly enough. It actually caused more energy to be expelled, and applied to the neck/head area on an impact. A Roadies experience from on the road in the past.

Nice.

So sorry about the delay in pics. I hope this works. It's my first attempt at Imgur. The first ones were taken by me (not very good) and the others were sent to me by Sweetwater (much better). I'm not a very good photographer. It almost looks like I have a filter or something on my phone camera but I don't. Anyway here she is. :D http://imgur.com/a/macPY
