I'd like to hear from all you lefties out there. We seldom get to try different instruments because all the guitar stores stock are "wrong" handed models. Lets let the right handed world know what we're up against. Come on guys, now's your chance to let it out.

I'm a lefty, but I play the guitar right handed. That's because I had band members show me the basics on their guitars (I didn't have one). I also learned right handed, because at the time (60's) left handed guitars were even harder to find (I grew up using a right handed baseball mitt, because those rarely come left handed).

I played drums, and my drum instructor convinced me to learn to play drums, right handed. It came in handy on several occasions, when I had to sit down to somebody else's drum set.

Not too long ago, I was in guitar center, and looked at their left handed section for guitars. There were only 8 guitars to choose from.

I'm a Lefty that plays Left Handed. In the early days (late 60's) I just used a right handed guitar flipped upside down. Then I started changing the strings too.
There a lot more Left Handed guitars available today than there were back then. I really have no complaints. I have owned and still own some awesome Left Handed guitars.

I started playing around 1970 and being left handed and seeing what Hendrix was doing I realized I had to change my strings upside down. But how about these guys like Albert King, Eddie(The Chief) Clearwater and then you have Coco Montoya and Doyle Bramhall III, these guys play left handed Strats, left handed with the strings upside down! (With the low E on the bottom)! That's pretty tough to do!! Ever since I've started playing, when I go into a music store, or a friends house and pick up a right handed guitar, I've got to play upside down. So over the years I've learned to play a little bit of stuff upside down. I've always said I'm going to learn to play that way also, just so I can freak people out! But I just don't have that much time on my hands.

I'm lefty but I learned righty. I was forewarned after one lesson about all the complications which would arise concerning left handed guitars. So, I told the teacher to teach me righty and I'll be eternally glad that I had the foresight to do that.

Not guitar related, but I'm quite angry right now. I just shattered two of my left-handed golf clubs at the driving range on normal swings. It was a freak thing, but there's not much I can do about it now.

I'm a lefty with left handed clubs. So I know that finding golf clubs in a sporting goods store, or a golf shop is not an easy thing to do. And if you find some....you're limited.

I think another problem would be.......if you play left handed a guitar.....and you're somewhere, where people are playing, and they ask you to join in......you're stuck with right handed guitars.

Because if that.......even though not intentional......I'm glad I learned to play right handed.

I'm left-handed, but I do a lot of things right-handed. I write, eat, and throw left-handed, and that's about it. I use right-handed scissors, and I hit a baseball and a golf ball right-handed.

When I decided to start learning the guitar about seven months ago, I had a decision to make. I had always played air guitar left-handed, probably in imitation of my heroes Jimi and Sir Paul. But I decided to learn to play a real guitar right-handed. Some of the factors I considered were availability of gear and the fact that most instructional materials are aimed at the right-handed learner. Plus--who knows?--maybe I can fret better with my left handed than I could with my right.

Same here. The left handed swing feels more comfortable. I can play guitar left handed as well, but I need to concentrate to do so.

So do I! we must be brothers... According to my dad, I was mostly lefty until I started playing baseball and we couldn't find a lefty baseball mitt... I guess guitars are much the same

I'm yet another left-hander who was glad to have been introduced to the guitar right-handed. I also play the drums, but I do that left-handed, and it has been a flippin' nuisance, down the years.

I was told that Mark Knopfler (amongst many others) is a lefty who plays righty, and I always wondered if that has something to do with his thumb-and-fingers picking technique. I did the same thing from the start, cos I never got on with a pick. It feels like trying to write with the pen in the wrong hand - I can do it, but it is very ponderous and slow. My right hand just wants to get to grips with those strings directly, without plastic in between.

I like the idea that a left-hander playing right-handed has a natural advantage with his fretting hand. I wish that one was true for me!

Cheers - C
