It's a small body bass so it's not going to be very loud when played unplugged.
Most acoustic basses aren't very loud unplugged.
The (now discontinued) Tacoma ThunderChief was the one exception I can recall that could keep up to acoustic guitars around a coffee table or campfire.
I'd like to see Fender re-issue the ThunderChief just exactly the way it was.
I'd buy one if they did and that's saying something.
GAS has very little affect on me anymore when it comes to guitars.
I'm a little more susceptible to amps but that's off topic.
They could rebadge to Fender if they liked.
(Fender bought Tacoma and closed it down)

Back to your query, I guess it depends on what you intend to use the guitar for.
If you will use it for practice and plug in when playing with others then you will want to base your decision(s) on the playability of the neck and the sound of the electronics.
If you intend to play it primarily unplugged you will likely want to consider getting a larger bodied guitar.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Thanks so much. What does GAS mean? What kind of money should I pay for a used Tacoma? Are they solid wood or laminated sides and back? Thanks Dan

GAS=Gear Acquisition Syndrome
You’re sweating, you haven’t slept properly in days, and you’re pretty sure that you’ve been talking to yourself.

Your search history is an endless stream of forums and reviews, and you’ve discovered that against all the odds you’re able to carry multiple completely opposing opinions in your head at the same time. You’re pretty sure that you’re about to lose it completely, possibly in a public place. You’re scared.

What you’re suffering from is a standard case of GAS, or Gear Acquisition Syndrome, and you are not alone.

A used ThunderChief, if you can find one, will likely cost you about USD$1,500 or maybe more.
The prices continue to go up over time.
They are "collectable".

FYI, if mud's definition of GAS is true then I've never had it.
Ever.
That definition might be just a teensie bit overstated.

Yeah just a teensie bit overstated
But I do more research than needed when I start looking for an item, and it does tend to make completely opposing opinions in my head

I was with you on the unending obsessive internet searches and the mental gymnastics of reconciling opposing viewpoints, etc.

You lost me with the perspiration, sleep deprivation and public panic attacks.
Never had any of that.
Not over gear, anyway.
Divorce, layoffs, serious illness ... maybe.
Not gear.
Amusing description, though.

My sympathy goes out to you, Mud. No one knows the full effect until they've had it as you have.

Allow me to simplify, G.A,S. has the ability to be both a virus and an addiction. Withdrawals are horrendous, and often the only cure is an intervention. Until that happens, a quick hit is advised. Beware of Pushers. They often come with a more expensive alternative.
