I'm curious, maybe there is someone here that works at or knows someone who works at Roland or Maxon, why in the hell were the Analog Delay pedals, (Boss DM-3, Maxon AD-9, etc.), discontinued. Looking at the current prices these pedals are going for on Ebay and such, its exceedingly obvious to even the most casual observer that these particular pedals are still quite popular.

Generally when a company discontinues a product, they've either lost their profit margins on that product, the company is having a hard time financially, or they have a new product coming out to replace it, that they assume is better. Give it time, see if they have something else coming out sometime soon. My guess will be yes.

I believe Maxon is replacing or updating the AD9.

Yes but that AD-999 they are replacing it with is over $300.00.

So, I stopped by Guitar Center and tried out a couple Analog Delay pedals and went home with a MXR Carbon Copy for around $140.00. I really like this one. Its really clean and has that mod button that makes it sound more vintage. Also, I could open it up and make a couple adjustments via some internal pots if I want. However, so far I am quite satisfied with the tone I'm getting from this pedal.

Part of the reason is that the old chips used for old analog delays are not being made any more. As they run out of chips they have to find a replacement that can work with modifications. After they run out of these next chips they have to find something else. And as the chips become more scarce the prices increase.

If you're looking to get a delay with an analog feature, check out the Boss DD-7. It has an analog setting along with many other neat features on it. I picked on up about 2 months ago and it's a great little pedal.

Maxon currently is making a AD-9 Pro Analog Delay. I've tried one out, sounds awesome!

While we're on recommendations, I just picked up an old 80s Deluxe Memory Man on eBay and I couldn't be happier. Up to then I had been using an old Digitech PDS 1002 which isn't bad itself. But the Memory Man just sounds more musical to my ears.

Not the one I speak of. It's the AD9 pro mentioned above.
