I like Marshall amps, hate the price. Are there any amps that try to copy marshall that I can get for 750 or less

You can get some Marshall amps for $750 or less. What kind of power are you looking for, we'll be glad to help you out.

Check the Marshall MG series amps. They are less money, but in imo dont sound as good as the tube models made in the U.K.

Well, your best bet is to go used. If there are small local shops, they usualy sell for much less, depending.

marshall has two solid state amp types. the mg wich imho sound terrible and the avt or advanced valvestate amps. they sound great and you can get a 50watt head for under $750 i think.

I was going to suggest this one, also. No valves. You get the look, but I don't know if you get the sound.

Try Laney for pure british tone some say they surpass marshall and they are cheaper. Or try carlsboro the 50 evo top. their both very good amps that will give you the belting tight bottom end.

An amp that's been making waves and is a thorn in Marshall's side right now is the Peavey Penta head. It's extremely versatile, far more than many Marshalls. It might not be as pure as a Marshall, but in some ways many think it's better.

If you want to do Marshall on a Really thin budget, look at the Peavey Windsor. Matched with a quality cabinet these amps can rival the big dogs, just a lot less versatile when you only have one channel. The one channel can cover a myriad of sounds though.

There's also a fair share of upper-end Marshall copies- brands that got their start by taking Marshall circuits and replacing them which always somehow produced unique results. Most notable of these companies is Hiwatt. Another company that did pretty well selling upper-end Marshall designs was Orange, which had a very distint sound dispite being extremely similar on a schematic level.

Peavey is making some great stuff as of late. I've played a Windsor half stack and that was pretty cool, but no real clean channel to it. Very "british" sounding. Also the Valveking halfstack isn't bad. Not sure of the prices though. Both were just lazy day tryouts. Also may be worth the wait for the larger Blackheart halfstack coming who knows when.

I keep waiting to see some mention of the word "Fender" in this thread ... :-)

do fender make a brit sounding valve amp. Traditional fender tones are a world away from marshall etc to my ears. Which i find very suprising being as jim marshall nicked the basic design off a fender amp.
