Being a small business owner I've had to sell a lot of gear in some pretty lean times, But nothing was as hard to give up as my Fender C.S. Showmaster. it was a great guitar and I miss it a lot. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

Marshall 200 watt bass head 2 4x12 bass cabinets. I can not think about all of the other gear that I have sold at the moment. :(

I'm lucky in that I never had to sell anything.
I've given away some instruments, with mixed results. One [insert expletive] turned around and sold what I had given. There's no forgiving that, ever.

I couldn't find a buyer for my '68 Dual Showman when I got my draft notice for the Army in 1969 so I gave it to my brother. In '72 I was headed overseas again and nobody seemed to want my '66 Precision Bass so I gave that to him as well. The amp ended up getting traded for a Sunn 2000S but he still has the bass (now on its second re-fret).

So far, I haven't "had" to sell any gear but I have suffered seller's remorse on more
than a few occasions. #SunnColiseumAmp #54LesPaulTVModel #FenderChromaPolaris

Ouch. Draft beer, not people.
I was in the (royal) air force a couple of years later, but that was voluntary. I think I would have gone postal if someone drafted me...
The lockers were too small to fit a guitar, but I had my fiddle. And five other guys in the room, two with harmonicas and absolutely no talent but vainly hoping it would land them chicks*... One of them got reassigned as a cymbal player for the royal honour guard, not because he had rhythm, but simply because he grew too tall for the air force. Figures. Military logic :)

*: The fiddle didn't either. Buying drinks works better, trust me.

Like Mike, never HAD to sell but experienced seller's remorse a few times.
Should never have sold that Takamine hand-built Santa Fe.
Should never have sold the SFVR.
Should never have sold that 95 USA Blues Deville 212.
Prolly should not have sold the PRS either.
Sometimes I get in a 'purge' frame of mind and start hacking away at the herd.
I don't even want to think about all the gear I traded away when I was just a puppy before I realized some day that stuff would be valuable.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I was forced to pawn a Hohner fretless Jazz Bass copy once, which sucked. But other than that, all my gear transactions have been voluntary, albeit regretful. That make another thread: Gear you should have held on to, but GAS got in the way.

Been lucky never had to sell any gear, gave some away that I had no use for. My wife would like me to sell things off, as my music room is kind of full, and the shed is fuller. After I retire I might start getting rid of gear with the big word MIGHT

Thanks guys , I am glad I did not have to sacrifice the guitars and amps I love the most. But as the saying goes Gear will get you through times with no money like money will get you through times with no gear. Rock on guys.

I never had to sell a piece of equipment, but I did let an all original '59 Tweed Harvard go to a friend. He still has it and won't let it go, I even offered my '66 Bassman for it and he turned me down!
