(EDITED: [more than] sufficient contributions have now been collected to get Mike his G-DEC 30 so we'll now bring the contribution portion of this to a close. -Brad)

Folks:

As most of you already know, valued forum member Miami Mike was recently diagnosed with cancer and is actively undergoing chemotherapy; he’s been sharing his journey in his ongoing Music, Cancer, and Chemotherapy thread and it’s made for some thought-provoking reading thus far.

I really felt Mike’s tact in breaking the news was particularly classy; he e-mailed me about it privately simply to explain why he hadn’t been participating actively on the forums -- and I politely encouraged him to get his you-know-what here online immediately and post about it. :D Is Mike's situation serious? Oh, yes. But is it beatable, and is he doing his best to keep a positive attitude about it? You bet -- and that’s where we come in.

What say we keep the positivity flowing by getting Mike some CHOICE FENDER GEAR, eh? (The notion of a fundraiser for Mike was originally suggested by fellow forum member Barry Pullis and I think it's a fantastic idea, Barry!) I'd like to get Mike a G-DEC® 30 and Fender is more than happy to offer ‘friend of the company’ uber-discount pricing on the amp, so the total that we need to raise here is really quite achievable.

I may post a running tally and I may not; we’ll play it by ear. The fundraiser might be up for a week; it might be up for two – again, we’ll see how it goes and will play it by ear. My main goal at this point is to quit overthinking this and get the darned thing launched so we can get some gear headed in Miami Mike’s direction!

My one word of caution here: as you know, there are many other forums out there that tend to employ rather aggressive, threatening, and/or guilt-inducing tactics to get their visitors to fork over donations, and here on the Fender Lounge Forums we're simply not down with that. This is all about folks sending positive vibes in Miami Mike’s direction, and not about putting guilt trips on your fellow forumites - so please keep that in mind should you feel inclined to reply to this post.

A few logistical concerns: even in the worst case scenario where the total isn’t achieved, Fender will be covering it, not to worry – Miami Mike will be receiving a G-DEC 30 out of this regardless of what happens here with our little fundraising effort. Also, in the case where *more* than the amount is collected (which is what I am anticipating) Mike will be cut a check for the excess. And finally, for those looking for a tax deduction here, don't -- you will not be receiving a receipt for your donation.

OK, with that out of the way. Here’s how to contribute:

(EDITED: Contributions are no longer being accepted. -Brad)

I think that’s enough yappin’ on my part -- let’s get Miami Mike an amp!

I thought that this was a locked thread (it's early here) and had posted the following in my other thread -

"I logged on today and just read Brad's thread (sticky) and it made my day! I'd just like to say thank you to all who have been supporting me with positive comments and well wishes and especially a HUGE thank you to Brad, Fender and this Fender Community which I'm proud to be a part of.

It's very humbling, to say the least and I'd like to reiterate what Brad has stated in his thread about this being strictly voluntary and I don't want anyone to feel obligated to contribute.

I'm hoping that by posting my experiences since my diagnosis and now, in undergoing chemotherapy, that this may help others in this great musical community who may find themselves or loved ones in the same or a similiar situation.

I know that some of you have been inspired enough to schedule procedures for yourselves to be checked and that proves to me that by sharing my experiences, it has made some impact and I wish you the best on your results.

I will continue to update this thread as my chemo treatments continue and hope that it will provide some helpful information to this very sincere, caring, supportive and professional community of musicians and music people.

Sincerely,
-Mike"

I think I have some money left on a Visa Gift card that I'm not using. Maybe later on, I'll send some your way!

One day at a time, Mike. You know, it is your positive energy through this trying time that inspires all of the positive energy from this forum and beyond to be brought back to you. I wish you continued strength and a focus on the future when all this is behind you and you are an expert at programing that G-DEC.

PS. For those of you, like me, that are not PayPal'ers, the PayPal donation link also includes a simple credit card option which is what I used.
